First of all, maybe I’m coming from a protective place, but my family and I have been coming to Turkish Shashlik Kabob for over four years now. We started visiting when the previous owners were running it, and we’ve stayed loyal even after the new owners took over about a year or two ago. That alone says a lot.
What keeps bringing us back isn’t just the food, which is genuinely some of the best Turkish food you’ll ever have. It’s the way this place makes you feel. The food is always hot, fresh, and seasoned to perfection. Every dish is made with care. The sizzling lokum is an absolute must. It melts in your mouth. The mixed platter gives you a little bit of everything, perfect for sharing, and the mixed pide is loaded with flavor. This place delivers every single time.
But what truly sets this restaurant apart is the heart behind it. The owner always takes the time to speak with his guests. He is humble, respectful, and makes you feel like you matter. You can tell he cares about more than just business. There is a whole family working together behind the scenes, pouring their love and dedication into everything. It’s rare to find a restaurant where you feel so at home and so taken care of.
We even brought guests from New York here earlier and they were blown away. The hospitality was above and beyond, and the food left them speechless. It’s more than just a place to eat. It’s an experience you want to come back to, over and over again.
When I see one-star reviews on here, I feel the need to speak up. Many of them are fake, posted by the same individual using multiple accounts during a time when the restaurant was running a generous buy-one-get-one promotion. We were there too during that promotion. It was packed. It was busy. But the staff still went out of their way to be kind, fast, and respectful. The food was still amazing. The value we received for the price was unmatched.
To that person leaving false reviews, I hope you reflect. God knows the truth.
To anyone reading this and thinking of visiting, I’m not related to the owners. I don’t have a personal relationship with them. I’m just a loyal customer who has consistently received excellent service, delicious food, and warm, welcoming energy every time I’ve walked in. I’ve seen them treat every single customer with kindness and respect.
This is a true family-owned gem filled with love, hard work, and soul. It deserves all the praise in the world. If you’re thinking about dining here, don’t hesitate. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning...
Read moreSaturday at 7:00pm (remember this time) we showed up to this place for their 50% off FAMILY platter for the weekend (3 days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday), we had travelled quite a distance to try their restaurant for the first time as a family of foodies. But when we had walked in they took our order but the owner came and told the worker not to as he noticed there was a lot of us and refused service to us saying they ran out of chicken.
I had gone in afterwards and tried to tell them that they need to advertise their deals better and add “while supplies last” so people know to call before hand to ask, we assumed because it’s only day 2 out of 3 of this grand deal we wouldn’t have to. Out of respect, i wanted to inform them to update their social media about the “while supplies last” so no one else would come in and be disappointed but, i was spoken to super rudely, i had to keep telling them to calm down and that I’m not there to tell them off and just here to give some friendly advice, but their behaviour was rude and they were yelling at us saying disrespectful things and weren’t even letting us talk, for a second I felt I was the worker and they were the customers LOLL. But later on they replied to a review saying we had showed up after 8pm and their kitchen was cleaned and closed which is not true, we showed at 7pm and they close at 9:30 which is more than 2 hours before they close, and proper dinner time for families, so I don’t know why they close their kitchen at 8pm when they close at 9:30. And 7pm is a reasonable dinner time as well, they should have food to provide us, especially if they claim this deal is happening today (on Sunday) too. It’s just odd we were all refused service. Saying you provide fresh doner to customers is understandable too but refusing every single person from my family member was not the solution, you could’ve said we can only provide it for a few of you guys and not everyone, because we could see the skewer behind the counter and it was not completely done. The communication from the owner wasn’t it!
You cannot choose who you want to give service to and who you don’t…that will not benefit your business, it’ll only bring it down. You also need to be honest with your customers too. If we were talked to with respect and were given a valid reason as to why we were not being served, we would’ve left, no questions asked, but it’s just the customer service of the owner and the lady that ruined this first time experience for me and my...
Read moreI was in the area and decided to try out this place based on the decent reviews. I was happy to support this small local restaurant.
We were 2 people, and visited Friday evening. Was not particularly busy. Loved the music they had on. Our waiter was kind and friendly. We were brought 2 appetizers (a roasted red pepper sauce + yoghurt sauce/cacik) w/ a large piece of fresh baked bread. Delicious.
One of the chefs brought our orders out quickly. He was soft-spoken and friendly. We ordered the chicken doner plate and the veal/lamb plate. Both were fresh and delicious, especially the chicken. Both were a solid 4/5.
Our original waiter ended his shift and left I presume. The chef seemed to be doing most of the work himself and bringing out orders to customers. I think he may have been busy, overwhelmed, or forgetful.
I went up to pay for our meal and ordered 2 Turkish teas + a sutlac to go. He brought our teas, but completely forgot to bring us our sutlac until I went and asked again. Teas were fine.
The sutlac had a nice floral flavour, but the serving was a bit small for the price, and the rice was whole + undercooked. I've had several of these puddings in Turkey and never was the rice whole. Unless this is a different style. 2/5.
I ordered another 2 Turkish teas for just before we left. Again, the chef had forgotten and looked confused when I went to remind him. I think it was the owner who brought our teas over, and he was apologetic. But they were both lukewarm. If I'm paying $2.25+tax/tea, I'd like them to be hot at the very least. If they had run out (it was around closing time), I would've understood and taken a refund for them instead. This is unacceptable.
The mains were priced fine for the serving and quality (around $20 a plate), and we enjoyed them. I was disappointed however that a pre-packaged, bottled ayran was $3.99+tax/each (you can find the same one at a grocery store for max. $3+tax). It would've also been nice to have the price of tea on the menu, otherwise I would've thought it was complimentary like at other Turkish restaurants. My total bill for 2 people for the night was $81 including ~ $7 tip.
Yesterday I woke up and was nauseous all morning. I have a feeling it might have been the veal + lamb plate that I ate that got me sick.
My final rating: 2/5 based on the mains, 4/5, but -1 for the service, and -1 for the sickness. I had high hopes for this spot. Probably won't be back unless they...
