Visited last weekend after finishing up some volunteering work, our team stopped by for a meal, and I’m glad we did! A couple of local team members shared the history of this place, which added such a lovely personal touch. I love hearing stories like that, it makes the whole experience feel more rooted and memorable.
We chose to sit outside since it was a beautiful day, sunny, breezy, and just right. Heads up: if you're sensitive to loud motorbike noises (we had a few pass by), you might prefer the indoor seating for a more peaceful vibe.
As for the food: *Pickle fries = My first time trying fried pickles! I really enjoyed the crispy coating and the dip it came with (though I secretly wished there was a bit more of it 😅). It’s a fun snacky dish that's definitely growing on me. *Roasted Veggie pizza = The bread was soft and fresh, and I really liked the sauce. The veggies were crisp and tasted fresh too. While the overall flavor was mild and balanced, it didn’t quite hit the pizza high I usually feel, but maybe I need to try it again. Could’ve just been my mood!
I got quite full and had to skip dessert, big mistake, I know 😭
Overall, a lovely spot with kind vibes, local charm, and food that I’d like to explore more of. Would definitely return, maybe next time for dessert and a second shot at that pizza.

Read moreCame in at 5:20PM on a Thursday, party of one. My server seemed frazzled. The front of house team was clearly overwhelmed. I guess this is a popular after-work spot? Just an unfortunate first impression; the people spoke shortly and you could feel the stress pouring off them.
Two beers out of stock -- Pilsner and IPA. It's hard not be able to choose the staples. I settle for the pale ale, which was a pretty average rendition of an English pale ale. Maybe I was just soured by not having my first two choices available, but it wasn't anything to write home about.
I had the spinach salad to start, which was very good and very inexpensive. The bread that came with it was particularly nice; fresh and perfectly seasoned. The dressing was tasty and not too heavy, and the dose of bacon bits (real bacon) was generous. Really good overall -- this is a dish to try.
Had the red ale next. Pretty good! True to style, no detectable faults.
I ordered "the best steak around" in a 12oz size, with fried garlic mushrooms. It totalled $31.50. I asked for it cooked blue. She didn't know what that meant. So I asked for it as rare as they can make it. It ended up rare, which is fine. The mushrooms were generous and steam was well seasoned. Fries were cooked very well.
Over the course of the meal the FOH staff settled into the rush, and service got better.
Overall the experience was middling. I would come back, but not at a busy time. Will update my rating after a...
Read moreTwenty years ago, I used to visit Moncton frequently, 2 to 3 times a year, and on my first visit, I had dinner at the Pump House, fell in love with the place and the food, that it became a tradition to drop by every time I'm in town.
The place has a wonderful vibe, and the staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming. The food is exceptional. I tried many things there over the years, but the thin crust oven-baked pizza is a must-have every time. They are also a brewery, so there's a wide selection of beers, and they are famous for their fruity flavors, like the blueberry beer.
Surprisingly, I never had dessert at the Pump House, because I'm always full from the appetizers and main course, so maybe next time I should skip the appetizer and go for a dessert instead.
One more thing I have to mention is the genius idea of the seating pods/booth, designed to look like wooden barrels. They perfectly fit the vibe of the restaurant, and with people engraving their messages on the tables and inner walls of the pods, this seating option becomes an entertainment piece, full of topics for discussion, as you go through what people have written and engraved.
I highly recommend the Pump House if you're ever in Moncton. Wish we had something...
