So, picture this: We had a reservation, but arriving fashionably late by 5 minutes at 9:15 PM seemed to unleash the restaurant's inner dragon. Despite their official closing time of 10 PM, we were immediately rushed to order within 5 minutes. We felt like we were contestants in some bizarre speed-eating reality show. And to add to the charm, they turned off the air conditioner, possibly hoping to cook us into submission so we'd leave faster.
The staff, oh the staff. Think of a grumpy troll under a bridge, but less endearing. They were rude and unwelcoming from the start. When the bill came, it was a hot mess—like, "Why does this look like a Sudoku puzzle?" kind of mess. We spent half an hour trying to sort it out. Thirty minutes! That's half an episode of your favorite sitcom wasted on fixing someone else's mistake.
Naturally, some of us decided that tipping for such delightful service wasn't happening. This decision seemed to poke the bear. The staff got angrier and threw in some colorful language, questioning our origins and making racist comments. We didn't stoop to their level, but let's just say the whole scene was uglier than a hairless cat in a rainstorm.
Remember, tipping is generally a good practice, but when the service is worse than your cranky next-door neighbor, sometimes you just can't justify it. This place? Yeah, it makes that neighbor look...
Read moreCozy and intimate is the first impression when my family and I walked into the restaurant. The place is lit with old style light bulbs that give off a yellowish light that gives a soft, gentle and welcoming glow to the charming surroundings. The serving staff is polite and well trained to get you to your seat with out disturbing the peaceful vibe. The menu is compact with a comprehensible selection of tastefully presented dishes.
We had the dumplings in peanut sauce, shrimp toast, spring rolls, General Zhou's chicken, and the crispy and tasty orange beef. All of these were well prepared, and flavorful, a feast for the senses. The sauce for the dumplings echos back to the sauce for cold peanut noodles with just the right amount of sweetness and acidity. The shrimp toast was AMAZING with the delicate contrast between the taste and texture of the shrimp and the crispiness of the toast. The General Zhou's Chicken was crispy, not overly sweet, and with the right amount of sauce. Then, there is the Crispy Orange Beef, which is rightly, a signature dish. It is served hot, crispy and with a wonderful layering of flavors. A must have. All of this was so good we also ordered the Spare Ribs. These were exceptional! Beautifully presented with a wonderful sauce that had a subtle mix of flavors--ginger, garlic and five spice were what I suspect I tasted. Just a wonderful experience all...
