Visiting in the Spring, Summer, or Fall immediately puts you in a carefree mood and ups feelings of serenity (they turn the fountain on in these seasons which makes all the difference). It’s the perfect rendezvous whether you're with someone or alone and whether you're chatting, reading, or people-watching. It can be pretty busy, but this can also add to the square's charm. (A couple of years ago, I was there with a friend, and we spotted an older gentleman trying to take pictures on his digital camera of himself and the fountain. It looked cumbersome, so we offered to take photos for him. He then showed us a photo taken over fifty years ago; it was of his dad and his friend walking in front of the fountain because they had decided to go to Montréal for his bachelor party. The man had been in search of Square Saint-Louis for years after finding this picture. But, he didn’t know its name, so all of his many trips from Chicago to Montreal over the years were fruitless.
