Great cafe with a Portuguese flair, although I have had mixed experiences here. Go for an amazing breakfast, and the most decadent mocha in the world (dark chocolate yes please), or fun tapas with green wine at dinner time. Definitely skip the lunch rush, the service takes a huge hit because they are packed and they have annoying rules abut ordering food and not using to go cups inside the restaurant, and once it took 30 minutes for them to warm up a pre-made sandwhich, and another 15 to plate it, even though we wanted it to go. However, I think if you come during quieter hours, the place is a real gem, and if you like Portuguese food you will appreciate the decor, and refreshing twist on classics.

I was looking for a good coffee in Montreal, and I found this gem on Peel Str. in Old Montreal. You can’t go wrong with a busy place. Croissants here are one if the best I have ever had!! They have as well fresh warm Natas, one of the best! They serve illy coffee here which is excellent and other dishes. I had a salmon bagel, as well tried the Vasco de Gama omelette which served with two slices of baguette bread and assorted fruits. Outstanding and hospitable service. Would definitely come back again whenever I visit Montreal to have an excellent coffee with a tasty bite in a warm ambience.

One of the oldest coffeeshops of Montreal. Same decor and same menu. Same average service by the employees. I don’t know, if it’s hard for the employees to be little warm towards their guests. Otherwise, their coffees are first class. Over the time, the prices have risen. I have been coming here for the last 15 years , so the only evolution I saw is in the prices. I recommend the cafe au lait or cappuccino. The texture is smooth and the taste is super delicious. Beside the service, I enjoy the rest of the experience.

I do not recommend this place ever ever ever! Worst service ever coming from a manager. The owner/ manager Jorge is very rude- I am shocked by the way he talked to us. A very disrespectful man, who sadly lacks a lot of professionalism towards his clients. A perfect example of a manager that clearly does not get the fact that customer service is EVERYTHING, especially in a big city like Montreal. With so many little cafés around the block, giving people such a bad service will not make you gain new clients nor keep your old ones. Reputation is everything- and today, this café gained a very bad one on our part.

Here is what happened. I was there with a friend- we had a very nice waitress who took our order. We needed to plug our computer, but there was no power supply next to us. The waitress offered us to kindly move to the back of the restaurant so that she can plug my computer behind the counter. By doing so, it left the computer cord hanging on the floor. A few minutes later, the manager (Jorge)- who was there with 2 of his friends- came to me. He had a very arrogant attitude. He unplugged my computer and started yelling, saying that this was very dangerous. I did not plug the computer, as the power supply was behind the counter (inaccessible to customers). As I was trying to explain myself, the situation escalated. He did not take the time to listen and just left me there. His attitude was very rude and disrespectful. After speaking with his employee, he realized that it was her and not me who plugged the computer. However, he never presented his excuses until I asked him to. WE WERE MORE THAN SHOCKED! It got even worst: his friends started to say very disrespectful things. Jorge never stepped in to calm the situation and he maintained his arrogant attitude. The only response was: if you are not happy, just leave. Despite his mistake, he never sincerely apologized nor tried to fix the situation like a manager/ owner would.

Despite the excellent location and a very nice waitress, I do not recommend this place. I would have expected more professionalism and respect coming from an owner. There are so many great cafés out there with experienced and professional owners that will be more than happy to have you as a customer. There is nothing unique here, except an arrogant, disrespectful manager who has a long way to go

Please do not waste your...

I was out shopping and decided this looked like a nice place for a light lunch on a hot day. Unfortunately, I felt very unwelcome as a solo diner. Although it was after the noon peak, I was given the worst table right by the door despite others being available, and I felt quite ignored. I noticed that other diners had glasses with ice for their sparkling water while I was just handed a bottle, and beyond being told what table was mine and having someone unceremoniously drop my food on the table, I was largely ignored. I realize it is counter service but I also saw other guests being treated with more care.

I ordered a salad trio, which was quite good in the heat when one has little appetite (it was during the heat wave). The food all looked really good, and it is obviously very popular. It would be somewhere I would return to on a future trip to Montréal if I had a more pleasant experience otherwise.

'm not sure if I hit an off day or if staff would be more friendly if I wasn't alone. I make an effort to use my French when possible, so I don't think this was the issue (although the counter staff did switch to English, which is common in Montréal if the person is bilingual).

As someone who travels alone frequently, it's frustrating when I encounter this. I enjoy eating nice meals and I often go to quite good restaurants, and my experience is that the best places realize that solo diners are there to appreciate the food. I don't need a fuss at all, but I hate feeling unwelcome because...

Super solid place to have a quick lunch after dropping our luggage off at Gare Centrale with our group of four.

It was a really quick walk from the station and I think I made the right choice as we walked in to a delightful buzz in the cafe.

The space is a well-lit long and narrow space with the service bar on one side and a collection of different seating arrangements along the other side.

The key thing on the menu is the made-to-order omelettes or the delicious looking sandwiches along the display window.

I went for a western style omelette that was made fresh and it was delicious. The two pieces of toasted baguette was a very very welcome addition to the meal. So satisfying to hear that crunch of the bread and then dig into the fluffy egg afterwards.

I didn't have room for any dessert but they also looked very good. :-)

The only little hiccup was that they somehow lost the ticket for one of our orders. We waited 15 minutes and then asked them about it. Turns out the ticket somehow fell off the board and underneath one of the panini presses. :-\

I watched them make the order double-time so that was a good sign.

Would definitely want to...
