You might not expect much from a simple one room space sushi place (yes that seems to rhyme by complete chance), but this one does roll quite high despite first appearances.
Upon further interaction you will find a very friendly and welcoming Catherine serving customers at the counter, within ear shot of her is sushi Chef Vince who is just to the left preparing some pretty darn fresh and tasty sushi delights.
Then let’s not forget Quan prepping and assisting just a few feet behind the other two members of the small but mighty team.
Some of the stand out dishes and points from a few visits thus far have been their memorable sushi pizza which is neither heavy nor greasy like many others around town can be. You can actually eat the whole thing and not feel gross which leaves more room for chef’s choice creations with ingredients like perfect textured avocado and salmon which they also fashion into well presented florets (despite being pretty are very easily consumed).
A few small side notes about well their ‘sauces’.
Slightly spicy mayo works well with the sushi pizza. Their house blended soy is not too salty, yet still remains very umami tasting and finally their wasabi a bit darker green than most and a bit more dense which made it harder to dissolve in the soy sauce and therefore did not give the typical nose burn — a love hate type of experience. That said, I don’t think it is authentic to drop your wasabi in the soy sauce and mix it around so this will surely not take away any of the stars.
There is a small counter for eating on-site which comes in handy since it’s hard to resist eating it super fresh.
To sum up with several simple words: fresh, quality, light, upbeat and pleasant.

Read moreWhelp, I am going to have to review them again because my my most recent order was way worse than the one before. They clearly have multiple people working there, one of whom makes great food and one who simply doesn't care.
Going back to one star because my last order had paper thin cuts of fish, stale and rancid tempura flakes in the rolls despite clear no tempura instuctions, and generally worse quality than a few days before, with soggy, poorly seasoned rice.
I give up.
Updating review because they have improved dramatically. Orders may sometimes be slightly wrong or missing items, but they are following requests and they reimburse you for incorrect or missing stuff.
Below average sushi even for Montreal. Also poor service; unfortunately they ignored my request to not add tempura flakes. Many of the rolls are full of greasy tempura flakes. A family member cannot eat gluten and now we must throw out the entire order, and while I can eat gluten, the tempura flakes used here are greasy, rancid, and frankly disgusting. The rice is also poorly dressed and tastes overwhelmingly of vinegar (I like quite a bit of vinegar in my rice, so this is truly excessive.)
Additionally, I ordered two "aburi" nigiri, which means they should have been hit with a torch, as specifically stated in the ad. Neither was toasted, and I would not have ordered them otherwise.
The futomaki rolls are also very, very small. Half the size of many other sushi takeaway places, such as HARUKO. See photos for sizing on the futomaki; it's barely as big as a loonie. Also see the lack of aburi treatments on the nigiri.
Do not order from here if you want healthy food or have even...
Read moreWe visited Sushi Yatta today, as we have many times since they opened. In the beginning, we enjoyed friendly service, but it has gradually declined as they’ve gotten busier. Today, the cashier—who was yawning—made a mistake on our order and charged us for it. It was only $2.75, but when we pointed it out, the owner impatiently dismissed us.
The service during our last few visits has also been poor. It felt like an inconvenience to the staff whenever we asked for basic items like soy sauce, which should be standard when ordering sushi. They also raise their voice impatiently at the delivery drivers who come to pick up the orders if they're 5 minutes early. If you eat at the counter you'll hear this hostility over and over again which makes for a poor dining experience. After this experience, we’ve decided...
