The service at the restaurant was fantastic, and the atmosphere was clean and pleasant. Its proximity to the station, just a couple of minutes away, is a cool convenience. However, I was disappointed with the food. The restaurant claims to serve authentic Nepali cuisine, but in my opinion, it was far from authentic.
We started with chatpate, which was good. Next, we ordered steamed chicken momo. The presentation was impressive, served in a bamboo dish, but the stuffing inside the momo was extremely scant. The achar (sauce) was particularly disappointing; it tasted nothing like traditional Nepali achar and had a very odd flavor. For reference, here’s an achar recipe:
Oil Chopped onion Minced garlic cloves Minced ginger Chopped tomatoes Turmeric, cumin, and coriander powders Red chili powder Chopped Bird’s eye chiles Salt to taste Toasted sesame seeds (or peanuts/cashews) Lemon juice Pinch of Nepali Sichuan pepper (timur) Chopped cilantro
Blend everything together until smooth.
Our next dish was egg chow mein, which I would rate 1/10. It was highly disappointing—the noodles were stinky and had an odd taste. We initially ordered chicken chow mein, but they were out, so we were served the egg version instead.
Lastly, we ordered the chicken thali, and I have no words for it. For me it’s a straight 0/10. I have never had a thali like that before. We spent a considerable amount of money expecting to taste authentic Nepali cuisine, only to be let down. The positive reviews we relied on made the experience even more frustrating.
I kindly request the restaurant to review their ingredients and ensure that their dishes are truly authentic. As a Nepali, I found nothing authentic about the food served.
For Nepali people I would say don’t make a high expectation for...
Read moreThe first and the best Nepali dumplings/ momo restaurant in Montreal and what an experience! The restaurant has beautiful photo paintings and with traditional classical Nepali music playing in the background. The owner is super nice, caring, hospitable and gives very good food recommendations. I wanted to try the veggie and chicken tandoori dumplings and instantly he gave me half of each as a meal :) We had the Shrimp tempura for appetizers and I had the Mango Lassi and they were beyond delicious! For the main course, my partner had the pork chow mein while I had the tandoori dumplings and they were a gourmet's delight :) Tandoori dumplings look overwhelming on display but when it comes to the taste and the spice level it is just perfect! The owner mentioned that they cater to the customers taste depending on the spice level - none, mild, spicy or very spicy. Cannot wait to come back to this 10/10 restaurant with family and friends and I am definitely trying the chili momos, steamed dumplings, and fried momos :) Perfect venue just 2 mins from Metro Cote Sainte-Catherine to try a different cuisine with a hospitable host :) UPDATE: We have been to this restaurant three times now and I am still in love with the quality of the chicken tandoori momos! We were served with complimentary vegetable lentil soup and my friends loved their vegetable chow mein + chicken tandoori momos ! Always a delight to eat at this restaurant and the owners and staff are super hospitable and really take care of you :) MORE UPDATES: They have a lot of combos and soup options and they are also...
Read moreWe were visiting Montreal this May and were really craving some momo, so we started looking for a Nepali restaurant. We searched and “Everest Momo” popped up at the top of the list — and we’re so glad it did!
We went there and had an amazing experience. The owners and staff were incredibly polite and friendly; they treated us like family. The moment we stepped in, the whole restaurant smelled like a home kitchen — that familiar aroma made us even hungrier and more excited to try their food.
We ordered momo, thukpa, khaja set, chowmein, and laphing — everything was so fresh, tasty, and felt like a comforting home-cooked meal. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to try the Nepali Thakali Khana set this time, but we’ll definitely be back for that soon!
While returning to Toronto, we even brought a khaja set with us, and the owner uncle kindly gave us ras malai for dessert — such a sweet gesture! We enjoyed the khaja set during a stop in the beautiful small town of Gananoque.
It was such a memorable trip for us, and the delicious food made it even better. Highly recommend Everest Momo if you’re craving authentic Nepali food...
