For the past 2 years and 4 months, I’ve been a devoted patron, returning time and again not just for the food but for the experience. Let me tell you this—there is no other place in Montreal where the flavors burst with such authenticity. Every bite reminds me of the soulful, intricate, and aromatic cuisine of India. It’s as if they have bottled the essence of Indian culinary artistry and serve it fresh every single time.

I usually stick to my favorites: Garlic Naan, Malai Kofta, and Shahi Paneer. These dishes have become my personal benchmark for excellence. The naan—pillowy, buttery, and charred just right—is the perfect companion to the rich, velvety Malai Kofta and the luxuriously spiced Shahi Paneer. Their consistency is remarkable; not once have they compromised on quality. Each visit has been a reminder of why this place has my heart (and palate).

What makes this restaurant stand out isn't just the food but the warmth of its people. Uncle and Aunty, as I fondly call them, make you feel like you’re dining at a family table. Their son, always with a beaming smile, greets everyone with such genuine respect that it instantly sets the tone for the meal. This is what hospitality should feel like—authentic, welcoming, and filled with love.

Today, I felt compelled to write this review because if I don’t, it would be an injustice to the culinary excellence they deliver every single day. To the team: thank you for keeping the soul of Indian cuisine alive in Montreal. You’ve set a standard that few can match, and for that, I’ll remain a loyal customer.

If you’re in Montreal and craving a taste of India, look no further. This place is not just a restaurant; it’s a journey to India with every bite. Trust me—you’ll leave with your heart and...

I visited this joint when i was on a trip in Montreal. First of , let me tell you i am a really hard person to please who has worked in an upscale Indian restaurant and eat out a lot.

  1. FOOD : The food was very delicious. The Chicken curry, Chilli Chicken ,the Paneer masala , Didar special biryani, lamb biryani, chicken tikka , fish pakora., and the Thalis (veg and nov veg, everything was on point. Not too spicy, not too oily. Made fresh and tasted amazing. The food couldn't have been better

  2. Service: The service was warm. The owner himself took the orders and recommended what dishes would serve the party of 7 that barged into the joint with hungry belly. The food arrived in timely fashion , starters , then the main and finally the sweet that we ordered. His young son served the food. He also guided us on the next touristy spot we visited . It was a pleasure to meet you "pleasure". Yeah that's his name.

  3. Ambiance : It a family run business and you know what you are going for. The place isn't run down nor is it a fine dining. But it wont intimidate you while having a scrumptious meal. Lots of seating. So you wont feel crowded.

  4. Cleanliness: The dishes were taken and moved from the table in timely fashion as expected. The washroom could get an update. But it was clean.

Overall it was great experience. I would recommend anybody visiting Montreal to give this joint a try if you are looking for great Indian food without making a hole in...

If you are looking for a genuine family run restaurant to support - this is the one. This family has been cooking up Punjabi Indian food for 2.5 decades and all the best dishes too. Great portions, excellent freshness, superb flavouring, reasonable and competitive prices, excellent caring staff and customer service you’d expect from a family run business. Atmosphere is not a first night date out romantic place, but, the theme really is cozy family and the pricing reflects it. They could invest a lot more money and make it all fancy and jack the prices up by at least 30% but I would suggest I would rather have an excellent meal with great service and reasonable pricing than a fancy place as there are far too many of those places that don’t come close to this restaurants quality and taste. Bottom line this is one of the best Indian restaurant ever. And this was a take out experience!!!!!! You should see how good it is when freshly served ! Excellent Nan, Raita, fantastic Lamb Saag, crazy yummy gulab jamun a real treat. Other excellent dishes include butter chicken, numerous rice dishes and too many others to list. Just go and enjoy it is worth your time and...

overall, it was a positive experience. The food was exceptional, bursting with delicious flavors that truly satisfied my taste buds. The staff was friendly and accommodating, providing excellent service throughout my visit. However, I did notice one negative aspect during my time there. There was a notice on the fridge that came across as offensive. While I understand that requests need to be made, it could have been communicated in a more civilized and respectful manner. Additionally, there was a mix-up with my order, and they initially brought the wrong dishes. Although they rectified the situation promptly, it would have been more professional if they had left the incorrect order for the customer, as is customary in other restaurants. Despite these minor setbacks, I still enjoyed my dining experience at Didar and would recommend it for its great food and friendly staff.

Updated 2017/05/05: Second time visiting this place. Lassi is still good, had the Beef Madrasi this time. It was really spicy and delicious! This time I also had the great displeasure of visiting the bathroom. It was *DISGUSTING*. Downgrading to 4 stars because of that. Original review: Really great place for Indian food! I had the lamb vindaloo, garlic Naan and a mango lassi. The lamb was very well done, with just the right amount of spice to it (you can have it very spicy as well) and lots of sauce to dip the Naan in. The lassi was a little bit on the yogurtey side, didn't taste as much as it could've of mango but still pretty damn tasty!
