Hachoir — Restaurant in Montreal

A good restaurant that unfortunately ruined by a awkward experience with the person who taking the seat or booking the table.

We had droved from Ottawa to spending easter weekend in Montreal. In the first day which is Good Friday we found this restaurant with very good reviews. We drove there to have great time for dinner. When we arrived my husband stop the car in front of the restaurant to let me go to restaurant first while he tried to get the parking. I went to the restaurant and wait for few minutes until a tall woman cames to see me. I tell her that I would like have dinner for 2 persons. Without checking or confirming she said that there no table for you. All booked. Honestly I was surprised when she said that because I can see many empty table.

Oh well I went out and see my husband who just parked his Car. I told him that the staff said that no table for us. Because the restaurant window full of glass we could obviously see there are many empty tables there. Because we drove very far to get to the restaurant he decided to ask for the table while I am waiting at outside.... not even 1 minutes he called me to came inside the restaurant because He got the table for 2 person and also there were another 3 person coming without any reservations also get the table. When I went to enter the restaurant to see my husband, the reception look and walk torward at me and seems like she would like to say something but when she saw my husband offered me chair to sit. She walk away to the back. We spend about more than an hour for the dinner and we saw some tables still empty.

I felt so bad and surprised.. is it because I am an Asian she didn't allowed or rejected me to have a table? Because When my Husband (not Asian) asked for the table they accepted him.

I hope it will not happening to another...

Very good quality ingredients and done with perfection in mind! Tartare is my favourite here and I can not I am even saying I eat Tartare but because of this place I love it! I am talking about the beef one BTW!! Salmon and tuna are very good also and yes I do recommend the trio Tartare Dish. The fresh and smartly choose herbs are there secret and the reason I come back because your pallet is having and nice time savouring every bite. Great job on the presentation the ambiance and the decor!! High end but not pretentious. An environment where they try to serve you the best they can. Even though the Covid must of effected their staff they still were able to cover the flock of people wanting to be wined and dined! Keep up the great work! 4 stars only because 2 dishes were a little salty but I am sure they used sea salt so I am sure it was just a little slip of the wrist.

Recommend to someone feeling like they need to eat something delicious and want all great choices. We were 2 and most people were and out of the 6 people around us we all found something delightful to let our teeth sink into. And warm our hearts and stomach with pure flavours that I am sure we do not do as well in our own homes. Or we try but I think the chef or chefs and sous chefs here just have a little over us when it comes to putting that extra flair to nourish...

The service:

It was good, a little tardy on the time to receive the food we were a group of six nothing complicated. Our waiter was nice and water was provided quickly and efficiently when needed.

The food:

The burgers are standard nothing to brag about, they are well seasoned, condiments are unique but the patty was dry and overdone. I had the Montigniac and my wife the Classic burgers. The Montigniac had wild-boar and unfortunately was dry and crumbly. The Classic had a standard beef patty but much dryer than my own boar burger.

The fries were excellent and well seasoned! The side of salad was bland and wilted.

The price:

Very overpriced for what is being served. If you’re looking for burgers then this is an ok option but certainly not the best.

The drinks were also overpriced and beers have a poor and unexciting option. Couple of local beers on tap and a dozen in a bottle for a high cost.

Establishment:

Clean and well organized little place with gender neutral bathrooms.

Only issue was that it was extremely hot today (23 September 2017) and they decided to open the windows wide. In this extreme heat I’d expect the AC to be on, especially with the beating sun down on our backs.

Overall:

Mediocre at best, nothing...
