Ilion — Restaurant in Montreal

Great at what they do! We were looking for a Greek meal (Fresh fish, fancy light Mediterranean - sort of like Milos). We went to Ilios Traiteur based on the reviews. We were surprised to find a cafe rather than a restaurant. No fish, no fancy stuff. But the owners were so sweet and were so obviously sophisticated culinary practitioners that we decided to give it a try. WOW! Everything we got was fresh and perfectly prepared. The moussaka was the best you can find at any price - and I have had it at all the top Greek restaurants in NY and many other cities. Ilios is very special. The salad was perfect and perfectly portioned. My wife had artichoke fennel and pea dish that was out of this world. The souvlaki was perfect and delicately marinated. The place is so humble that you would not expect the food to be at this level. You don't get a variety of fish, and the menu is small, but what they do make is worth every bit of five stars. Freshly catered authentic Greek food and pastries combined with an added frozen section and a small grocery store with items directly from sunny Greece. You can eat locally or take out to eat at home. The owners, Fouli and her husband Dimitri, are delightful and greet you as friends. You can also order to cater a larger event. If you are looking for authentic Greek cuisine that does not involve your typical souvlaki or gyro, then this place is the place to be! The food is very flavorful and prepared fresh in the kitchen. The staff is very welcoming and kind. The true essence of Greece, all fitted into one small, yet very cozy eating establishment.
