Kava — Restaurant in Montreal

Hands down the worst experience I've had at a restaurant. There were a few items they ran out of as we were ordering. The staff doesn't know their signature cocktails (confused the Hugo with a mojito), their POS is problematic since they couldn't split the bill for the amount of people that we were. We ended up waiting an hour until we could pay, no one from management approached us to apologize or explain the situation. As we were leaving, we were informed that we should've asked for a manager as no one was made aware of the situation. What could've been a cowardly attempt at acknowledging their mess ups became a show of deflection and putting the responsibility on the customer. No one could own up to being part of management when asked. There are way too many red flags for me to support this establishment.

For context, we were the biggest group of the evening and the restaurant was essentially empty. There were countless opportunities for management to check in, explain the situation, apologize or even offer compensation for this...

We came for dinner and stayed for the vibe. The cocktails were creative and dangerously smooth (don’t skip the Aroma— trust me), and every course that came out was better than the last. The Arancini zucchini crevette? Unreal. You can tell the chefs are having fun and know exactly what they’re doing.

What really sets this place apart, though, is the energy — it feels like the kind of secret spot you almost don’t want to share… but you have to. Perfect for date night, celebrating, or just feeling a little extra on a Thursday.

Food was alright, just overpriced for what it was. The shrimp and zucchini arancini had barely any shrimp and was essentially tasteless without the sauce. Just a little salt would have helped bring the zucchini flavour out. Also for 22 dollars, I shouldn't have to dissect it to find the tiny bit of shrimp. My lamb chops were alright with the labneh, charred a little too much but that's not the worst. Didn't include any sides. Vacherin dessert was refreshing, great mix of strawberries and basil. Was expecting more meringue though. Kava soul cocktail was fantastic. Decor was stylish. Service was friendly and accommodating, appreciated the wine suggestion, just disappointed that chosing flat water would lead to a 7.50 charge for bottled water, I've only seen that in Europe and not a practice that should...
