The venue is somewhat nice, no seating whatsoever. To use the bathroom, youve got to deal with bouncers yelling asking where youre going every 5 feet then pushing you in that direction or kicking you out if you dont answer well enough while also racing servers serving a gourmet restaurant, trying not to spill their food to wherever it was going. The drinks are ridiculously expensive ($50+ for 2 drinks). Drinks are also served right at the rail too, on a platform where they block 100% of the view. Watch your fingers, the drink person seriously hurt us when he stood on the rail platform to sell drinks behind us. Drawing blood on our fingers without acknowledgment.
But the worst part, is the staff. I was practically cavity searched (every single pocket, every single square inch of my body, found nothing), whereas others in my party could've brought in a firearm because they weren't even patted.
As soon as we arrived, we paid for coat checking. 3 hours later, after the headliner of the night was done at 1AM, we were ready to pick up our jackets. The line was 100 people long, but it wasn't moving. We discovered this was because they were trying to make more money before serving the ones who had already paid. They would not serve anyone and were actively being aggressive, rude, and generally scary and uncomfortable to EVERYONE. I kindly asked the bouncer what the ETA of them catching up was, and he literally didn't even look at me and shrugged. You can't kick someone out for asking for the jacket they paid to be checked (the entire coat check was empty except the odd person trying to deposit). Other staff said there's no reason we can't get our coat. 100s of people were angry and confused while being threatened. We literally could not leave the venue even once we were outside because different bouncers were fighting someone over their jacket (saying they couldn't even bring it in or something).
Overall, the staff and facility needs training with large crowds and stress mitigation, or new staff. I've never seen such ridiculousness, it was silly how worked up they were getting over nothing. The bouncers and staff were often the only ones seen to be escalating situations, yelling when nobody else is, and trying to pick fights over where young, overwhelmed people were trying to relax for a minute out if the way. Way too aggressive for the scene and need retraining, honestly. Anyone else who was there for NYE would say the exact same. Even before going, we were warned about their attitude. It's not a one time...
Read moreAfter the event, security said we were not allowed to use the washrooms. They literally told us to pee outside. When we tried to do that nearby security (different person) asked what we were doing and then chaperoned us inside to use the washroom when we explained what we were told to do. However, they only allowed a select few to use the washrooms one last time. Thankfully one of my group made the cut. Obvious signs of certain staff tripping with power.
Some staff members were specifically confused on the best way to get out of the building. We asked them the best way out only to get lost, ask them again, and then they said they honestly don't know. Maybe figure that out before working security. What if there was a real emergency?
Incredibly long line to get in to a ticketed event, even for a late night venue standard. Once in you can clearly see why. Many security and staff just standing around making sure you go downstairs and into the bar once past security. Maybe you should help ticketing staff and security staff get people in the door before yelling at them to "go downstairs." I counted 2 or 3 max people scanning tickets, while there was a crowded line as long as two flights of stairs packed with people.
I was yelled at for wanting to wait for my friend to finish his security pat down. God forbid I coordinate with my group getting in to the venue that we have never been to before - see point above about confusing venue layout. It must be a good use of money to pay staff to yell at people instead of making sure they are getting in safely and timely. One of my friends was yelled at for taking too long to open her purse for bag check. Security said she was too slow and needed to hurry up, then just let her go through without checking.
Bar staff are severely understaffed and once again not acting like they care very much. Not in much of a rush to serve the customers ready to pay.
The venue itself is awesome, besides for it feeling like there is no air conditioning. The lights and smoke/pyro really are world class.
It is a shame that the staff act like they are only there for the pay check. Can you imagine being told to...

I’ve had two very different experiences at New City Gas — one absolutely electric ⚡ and one that left me shaking my head. Let’s break it down:
🎉 The Magic Moments
During a conference social event, NCG was nothing short of spectacular. The vibe was off the charts: • 💃 Non-stop dancing, a tightrope walker, and a DJ who kept the floor alive. • 🤸♀️ The aerial silk trio? Pure art in motion — hypnotizing to watch. • 🍸 Food & drinks were spot on, with smooth service and fair prices. • 🎶 Crankdat’s set on the first-ever 360° stage at NCG was a game-changer. Amazing visuals, perfect stage layout, and despite being a sold-out show, it didn’t feel suffocating.
It was so good that I left thinking: “This is THE spot for epic events in Montreal.” ✅
⸻
😬 The Major Letdown
Fast-forward to the G-Eazy show, and wow — what a contrast: • 🏚️ Layout? Felt like a hallway party. Nothing immersive, no wow-factor, and zero small touches to elevate the vibe (seriously, not even free popcorn). • 🥂 The so-called “VIP”? Just an elevated bar with $15K table quotes 🤯. Nothing luxurious, just overpriced and bland. • 🚨 Security? Hyper-focused on guarding VIP while missing a passed-out guest and even ignoring a harassment incident. It was the crowd that stepped in to help, not staff. • 💡 Lighting disaster: blinding spotlights on the audience most of the night. Unflattering, harsh, and a total vibe-killer.
It felt like a mid-tier club wearing a high-end price tag — and failing to deliver on every promise.
⸻
🎭 Final Verdict • When NCG is on its A-game: it’s unforgettable, artistic, and worth every dollar. • When it’s off? It’s a cash-grab dressed as luxury — and honestly, Rebel in Toronto makes it look amateurish.
👉 Would I go back? Yes — but only for select events where I know the production team is top-notch. Otherwise, hard pass.

🔥 Overall Score: 7/10 (but split between a glowing ✨ 9/10 night and a disappointing...
