La Reina del Sur — Restaurant in Montreal

When the guacamole arrived — a scoop of poorly spiced avocado for 12 dollars — we knew the meal was doomed. Unfortunately, the tacos weren’t much better — grizzled meat and bland flavors. The restaurant, a new place on the Plateau, is trying to please — a lovely server bought a complimentary bean soup. But the soup was burned and tasted off. The one bright spot was a not unpleasant taco birria. The salsas were also nice. The staff is also friendly and enthusiastic. I hope this place succeeds. I love Mexican food and the country’s amazing kitchen. But in a neighborhood spilling over with good taco restaurants, it will need to...

We were 3 people. My friend ordered the vegetarian option. One of the tacos had meat mixed in it by mistake which is unacceptable for a vegetarian person. My other friend ordered the Carnitas option which was full of mushy pork fat and almost no meat. I ordered the La Reina option and thought it was a joke when I noticed the "sausage" in it was just tasteless cut hot dogs.

Their tacos was really good! My favorite where the chorizo con queso absolutely delicious, their carnitas where equally yummy and well done without being dry like in some places. The atmosphere was really typical, enjoyable music! The staff wasn't as present but they were nice for the little times we saw them!...
