I heard about this restaurant from my friends and one day I decided to give it a try.
It was a little crowded when I stepped in with my friends. Usually this is the kind of crowd we can expect in an Indian restaurant on a Friday evening.
When you walk inside the restaurant, the reception is not in the front but almost towards the end of the hall. After a few minutes of wait we were greeted and welcomed by a girl, who showed us our table. It was crowded and noisy inside.
This is one of those restaurants which has dishes from both the North and South Indian cuisines listed in their menu items.
Everything looks good on the menu and if you're hungry you would want to order a lot :) A lot of things on the menu is good but it made it confusing for me to decide on what to order.
I was debating whether I should order Dosa which is a South Indian food, or I should order something from North Indian cuisine. After a lot of back and forth, I decided to order a non veg thali.
They have three or four different types of non vegetarian thali. They have one that comes with butter chicken, one with chicken curry, one with lamb curry and and others too. On the menu you can order two non veg curries (let's say butter chicken with chicken curry) into a single thali for an extra price.
The one thing I personally didn't like is the items listed on the menu (Thali) has different prices for lunch and dinner.
The prices on the menu are comparatively higher as compared to other Indian restaurants. And honestly Dosa point has much better prices for the same food items on their menu. The food was served after a long wait, and honestly it looked really good.
Naan was really good, fluffy, soft and fresh. We were however disappointed with the chicken. The gravy of butter chicken tasted really good until I tried a chicken piece. It was hard and rubbery and definitely not fresh. It looked like they just added some left over chicken pieces into a fresh hot gravy.
The tandoori chicken piece was a little undercooked. So it tasted good from outside but it was a bit raw from inside. May be it was a bit rushed to be served on the table.
Unfortunately we were not satisfied with the food quality and price. Food looked good but didn't...
Read moreWe went to a dosa place last week. Going there for several years. Ordered 4 dosas. Too 50 min for the food to arrive after the order was placed. We are patiently waiting where there were only 4-5 guests in the restaurant. The guests came after us were served first. Yes I know the food may be ready already. We did called ahead of time.
When the food arrived 3 dosa was nice crunchy and served hot ( it came one by one which was ok). The 4th dosa was cold, soggy and wierd looking. We politely asked the server why is it different. He said it’s like that. I said but we ordered the same thing and this is definitely not the same quality. Anyways he agreed to change it. 4th person had another 20 min wait to get his plate.
Finally the payment time. We are chared for 5 dosa with 15% discount on fifth dosa. I asked why we we were not served right thing? Not advised of the charge? The person who was serving and was at the cash said since we didn’t accept the food it was thier loss. They have to charge for it. We paid and left.
My question is: Never heard a customer paying for chefs mistake? If we order the same thing how does 3 plated look alike and 4th is cold, soggy and unappetizing? Why we were not advised that there will be a charge??
I asked to talk to a manager and there was no one. Definetley never going back...
Read moreWe came across this place when i was searching for South Indian restaurants in Montreal. We visited in the evening and the staff was very humble and polite. The place was already occupied by 4 other couples. We ordered the Dosa ( Garlic Dosa ), Kottu Parota and Chicken 65. All items were freshly prepared and the Chicken 65 was tasty enough for me to eat the entire dish by myself. The chutneys served we spicy and perhaps a little cold ( which is expected cause they need to be stored in a fridge ). Overall, the dinner experience was very good. Food was hot , tasty and served in time. Thus , we decided to explore other items on the menu for Brunch the next day :) ....... For the Brunch Meal, we sampled the Idlis in Sambar, the Medu Vada and a dosa each. The sambar was spot on... Medu Vada was also good but a little harder than what i am normally used to but to be honest , I was just glad and happy to be served Vada in Montreal as this was my first south Indian experience in the city. The Dosa's again we served right on time and we enjoyed every morsel before. Staff was courteous, the restaurant is a little old and the decor perhaps a little to simple but one needs to go for the good food which isn't expensive ( compared to prices in Ottawa ). An Immediate concern for the owner to fix would...
