Finding this restaurant was like finding a gem. We were staying near Papineau Metro and were looking for a restaurant that can seat us at around 10:15PM. Going through all the different options of restaurants, they were either closing or were not appealing to what we were looking for. We were using Open Table and as we were losing hope of finding something we liked, we saw that people had reserved tables at Le Serpent over 30 times in that one day. I immediately checked the pictures and they all looked amazing and tasty. On top of it all, their pricing was very affordable for the style of dish and the ambiance of the restaurant. They were also open till 11, so it was an excellent choice.

Long story short, as you can see from the pictures, Le Serpent serves some very exquisite dishes, a fusion of French and Italian cuisine. Best of all, everything is pretty affordable considering the quality of food you are getting. For our party of two, we got an appetizer, two main course, a dessert, and two drinks, and everything came out to just a bit over USD $110 (CAD $150) including tips and their double taxes!! It was unbelievable. Had we had this meal in Manhattan or maybe some other restaurant in Montreal, I'm pretty sure we'd be paying close to USD $150-200 for everything.

Here are the dishes we had:

  1. Two drinks - Jameson on the rocks and a Moscow Mule. Pretty cheap but was also a bit watered down.
  2. Appetizer - This is to die for and was not on the menu, so make sure to ask for it if they don't offer it to you - Orichiette Pasta with cuttlefish ink to give it the black color, smoked cod, Nordic Shirmp, Nduja (google it) and strachinno. Words can't describe how delicious this was.
  3. Main Course - Salmon Confit, rosti, chorizo, allium, sour cream / Duck Magret, salsify, spelt, black chanterelle, hazelnut. These were amazing as well. Wonderfully done.
  4. Dessert - Salute (Tiramisu with Fresh Espresso) Made by their wonderful Chef Patissiere, Masami Waki. To us, we enjoyed this dessert as the espresso helps awaken your senses from the drowziness that may hit your from the previous meal. If you're a Tiramisu purist though, you may want to avoid this as it's no regular Tiramisu.

All in all, we had a wonderful experience at Le Serpent, and will definitely come back here whenever we are...

This is one of the high class restaurants that I had eyes on over 2 years ago. And then the pandemic raised its ugly head.

Tonight, for a very very special occasion, we are seated at this restaurant. I have never made a booking at a restaurant where there was so much attention to detail. Email was answered promptly and professionally. What a great start!

Check in was even better. We were fortunate to have Andréane looked after us from start to finish. It was a pleasure to let her indulge us with the wine selection to start with.

We ordered the razor clams, oysters as entree. The main course was Branzilon, Loup de Mer, a fish from the Mediterranean that is meant to be shared for two. The other main was Linguini, Speck, Amande, Chou-fleur, truffle-hachée.

Our reservation was at 5.45pm on Saturday and by 6.30pm, the place was jammed pack. Washroom was private with GOJO foam soap, auto hand dryer and clean. I am allergic to dirty washroom, and trust me when I tell you that washroom are well maintained and clean.

Back to the razor clams and the oysters. Simply delicious. Trust me. Both oysters and clams were sitting on a bed of sea salt, not on the traditional shaved ice what we are used to. Focaccia bread was incredibly good with dripping olive oil.

Loup de mer was excellent! Fish was firm and so tender. Atmosphere was somewhat noisy, but it is jammed packed, but you can still carry on a good conversation.

This restaurant is a place that is meant to be remembered, and if you want to take a picture to carry on a memory that will last a hundred years, then this IS the place.

Atmosphere is a 5, the food is 6 and Andreane has helped...

I don't usually go out of my way to leave reviews but I have a few concerns with the quality of service in this place, namely the overall attitude of the employees. I booked a reservation for 10 and received a text the night prior to confirm my attendance. I replied that I will indeed still be coming and appreciated the follow-up. He then replied, with a wink, that my voicemail is full, insinuating I should clear it. All good, just not very professional. As I arrived, the hostess asked me if everybody was still attending, to which I replied 3 people had cancelled last minute. She then looked at the manager of the place and goes: I told you! moment of cringe then I had the not so subtle manager tell me that I should call if that's the case because they get pretty booked. I explained that I had only gotten the news about 10 minutes earlier, and he then, again, had to reiterate and school me that, for future reference, I should call. These types of events really have a way of irritating people, aka your clients, and don't make us want to step foot in your restaurant again. I'd like to add that there we're many empty tables and there wasn't a bigger group that would of taken up our seating space. On top of the strange attitude, our plates were lukewarm. I'd like to add that my waitress was wonderful, I just didn't appreciate the managers lack of stewardship and arrogance. Will not...
