Monopole — Restaurant in Montreal

Probably the friendliest, most adventurous, yet humblest place I've encountered in Montreal, especially when it comes to wines. Gabriel took us through the journey of exploring natural wines from different parts of the world, and his passion was so infectious that it made our day (and week)! I cannot stop talking about the food as well - Simplicity, and focus on delivering the best possible taste with a few ingredients is what Monopole excels at. The potatoes were phenomenal - be it the crisp exterior (with the mellifluous interior) or the subtle flavours that engulfed it. And the popcorn! Never thought I'd ever write a gloating review of popcorn and potatoes with Natural wines but any place that makes one happy with just the simplest of things needs to be preserved, and Monopole is exactly that. Aweful treatment from the owner.

My team and I had coffee at the shop while we were shooting some pictures for a client near the location. At first, we were served by a lovely barista that took our order. Everything was going well, until the owner came up to us with an unacceptable attitude. We had our bags on the floor and he asked if this restaurant was a "library"? lol ok? He also asked us if we wanted to buy something as if we were simply squating in his shop. Very unacceptable, especially to buying customers. We will defenitely never come back to this coffee shop and I will not be recommending...

I really don't understand the score this place has on here... I live and work a few steps away and I find the place really "normal".

I love great design and service but with respect, they just don't deliver the service, the goods nor the looks... sorry.

Fun fact : I clearly remember passing on opening day or close to. It was close to the end of the day and I was abruptly told to leave the place as they were closing. Yet the door was opened and I had cash to spend...
