The food here is FANTASTIC!!! Well presented and full of flavor. Great location with a nice view and relatively nice terrace. They pay close attention to detail when it comes to the food, but their service on the other hand is really poor. It's unfortunate that such a nice place with great food, ambiance, and decor has such bad service and courtesy from their staff and waitresses. We asked if there was a table for 2 on the terrace and got a different answer from three different waitresses (confusion much). When we ordered our entrees, we wanted to order a dish of Pad Thai as well and the waitress was trying really hard to change our minds in a discouraging way, almost as if she didn't want us to order it and telling us that we'd be full several times. I mean appreciate the suggestion but after a client contests the first time and still insists for their choice on the menu just go ahead and take the order (really strange). There was no cutlery on the tables except for chopsticks, and although I know how to use them, the person with me did not (maybe something to consider for the future). When it came time to pay, the waitress brought us the bill and only came to collect payment after 10 minutes. Finally she came, and it took her another 13 minutes (on the clock) to bring us back our change (23 mins to pay a bill) ridiculous!!! All in all, this is a nice place with a great vibe, good food, decent prices, and ideal location, but there are many other spots in Montreal that also have this AND MORE (like great service). Perhaps in the future I'll give it another try, but for now it was a bad experience.

Went here for a work lunch and was pleased with the renovations to what was previously restaurant l'apartment. It's bright and vibrant inside and was definitely buzzing when we arrived at the start of lunch rush. My lunch started with the spicy papaya salad which was delicious and had the slightest hint of spice. I didn't find it overly filling, but due to my main course I didn't rush to finish the salad. For my main I had the Pho, and having sampled most of what Chinatown has to offer in comparison this defintly held its own. I think the cuts of meat were exceptional and much juicer than I normally have. The broth was good as well but I would give a slight edge to the old guard in Chinatown. The cocktail was also good, I had a mint and rum drink (Viet minth) which was garnished with lime and lychee. Not too strong and felt refreshing paired with my mains. Overall I really enjoyed my first experience here and would definitely come back. More so during the winter months for a nice hot Pho. My only complaint is that during peak lunch hours it was very loud and we had a hard time talking over the noise.

Total disappointment. I came back to Hà Vieux-Montreal with high hopes, remembering how amazing their pad Thai was a few years ago. Back then, the sauce had depth—the perfect balance of tamarind tang, palm sugar and fish sauce. Shrimp were stir-fried into the dish, flavors were layered, and everything was delicious. Not anymore. This time, there was no tamarind flavor at all—just a blunt, overpowering saltiness from fish sauce. The shrimps were battered and thrown on the side like an afterthought. The pork had no flavor. The noodles were soggy. None of the ingredients blended together. If this dish were an ECG, it’d be a third-degree AV block: the components were there, but completely disconnected. Its presentation was also poor. Even the bao my friend ordered was dry and disappointing. She needed an entire bottle of water just to get through it. I don’t know if the cook left or if there’s a new owner, but whatever magic Hà used to have is gone. Sadly, never again.

As a visitor/tourist to Montreal, I would highly NOT recommend coming to this restaurant. We visited this restaurant over the weekend and had a horrible experience, mostly due to the service. The waiter was unprofessional, slow and unaccommodating. The food was mediocre at best, it had the same tasting notes for every dish - not much depth in flavor as they all were marinated with the same similar combo (five spice, sugar, fish sauce). We ordered the broccoli, the tataki salad, the wings, the hangar steak, the shrimp and pad thai for 4 adults and a toddler. We wanted to try a bit of everything. When I asked the waiter if the shrimp and the chicken wings were spicy he said no....but they were spicy and definitely NOT acceptable for my toddler. At the end of the meal, I asked to speak with the manager to express my disappointment in the overall service level and he provided a very insincere apology and a frustratingly short response, almost as if he didn't have the best interests of the restaurant in mind. All in all, very terrible experience. If you are a tourist, please do yourself a favor and do not come here - there are MANY MANY great restaurants in montreal at the same price point that will leave you...

I tried the pho / soupe tonkinoise at the recommendation of the waitress. It was the worst soupe tonkinoise I have ever had. They really shouldn't call it soupe tonkinoise or pho because it isn't. The broth was dark, overly salty, overly sweet. The meat tasted sour (I didn't eat it because it tasted foul). The bean sprouts and herbs were already added (normally this is served a part and you add your own). It was served without lime. The noodles were thick and hard. The imperial rolls were actually 1 roll cut in half and extremely greasy. We blotted them with our napkins. They were presented on dirty lettuce and rotten mint sprigs. If the mint is old the kitchen should send it out without the mint because no one wants black, rotten mint sprigs on their food. I don't know - maybe it was an off day because all of the other ratings are so positive. $45 for 2 (both had tonkinoise soup and imperial rolls) - seems over priced for what you get. The ambiance is nice. It's a good looking restaurant. The service was terrible. It took an hour and a half for lunch. It took at least 20 minutes to get someone's attention for the bill and the place was half empty. I think there are better options...
