Great for cuts, terrible for color—avoid!

I’m posting this review as the stylist I chose is no longer at this salon. I initially booked a free consultation with her to discuss ideas for a bob cut and a drastic color change (dark brunette to blonde). She listened to my vision, and I left the consultation feeling confident because she assured me everything I wanted was possible. However, on the day of my appointment, things took an unprofessional turn.

As my stylist and I began discussing the final color choice, another stylist—seemingly the owner of the salon—interrupted us, saying the color I wanted couldn’t be done. What followed was a back-and-forth between the owner and my stylist, during which the owner questioned every aspect of the process—from the color combinations to whether bleach was necessary—and even added, in a pompous tone, 'We need a coloring class next week.' By the time they finally did a test strip, I had completely lost confidence in the salon and chose to do a cut only.

I was prepared to make a drastic change, but how was I supposed to feel reassured when the manager openly doubted my stylist's expertise? In my opinion, it was completely unprofessional for the manager to undermine the stylist in front of a client. Why hire someone if you don’t trust their abilities? And as a client, I specifically chose this stylist for her skill. This experience made it clear that the manager doesn’t respect his team’s expertise, which ultimately impacted my trust in the...

On a recent visit to Montreal, my host recommended a brand new salon, Salon Sixhaut, that had just opened in the neighborhood. What a fabulous suggestion!

Sixhaut is a smart, well designed salon in an interesting building. Owners Jordan and Jesse are professional, knowledgeable and truly experienced.

My appointment with Jordan started with a frank discussion of my expectations, the level of my ability to work with my hair and Jordan's thoughts and vision about what looked best on me. His level of expertise was unparalleled as my cut was perfect! I've never felt so confident. My cut was stylish, relevant and it fit me to a "T". And thanks to Jordan's thoughtful discussion regarding my ability to work with the style, my hair continues to look fresh.

When I next return, I plan on Jordan doing my color. His own hair is an envious example of what mine could be. We discussed how I loved his gold tones. Amazingly, his vast industry knowledge informed me that Aveda clove shampoo would enhance and enrich the warm tones to give me the gold in the interim.
