This is my 2nd time eating this amazing, delicious food. The 1st time was in late July 2023, I had ordered through UberEATS, and I remember, as I was eating all that food by myself, how good it was. Ever since that day, I’ve thought about that experience on numerous occasions. We are now February 17th, 2024. On one of the coldest days of the year, my craving decides to act up to finally go to this place in-person, and sit there and absorb the entire experience. (Also, my GF wanted Malaysian food because her friend has been sending snaps of food they’re eating in Malaysia while on vacation).
At 6:28PM EST, we arrive. We look at the menu and we’d like to have it entirely, however, we are on a diet, so my girl & I only get 4 dishes— 1) Shrimp & Chicken Fried Rice 2) Shrimp & Chicken Malaysian Noodles 3) Chicken Kottu Roti 4) Nasi Lemak.
Within 15-20 minutes, the food arrives to our table, and I immediately just start eating the Kottu Roti. The 5 minutes after that, i have no recollection of. It was like I passed out into a coma and woke up, to find only a quarter of the food left on each plate. Yes ladies & gentlemen— I blacked out and savagely consumed all the food. The Kotto Roti is the best in Montreal— Probably the best I’ve had and best I’ll ever had. If you thought Thanjai was good, this is even better! I can’t believe it. The fried rice and the noodles are just too good. They get everything right, way better than any of the other region cuisines of India. I no longer feel like I have to go to Toronto for Hakka food because this epic fusion of Sri Lankan and Malaysian food takes care of what I would need from Toronto.
Lastly, we had the Nasi Lemak. You have to have the sauce on the coconut rice, the nuts, the cucumber, the fried chicken, the anchovies, all in one spoon and bite it down. The flavor combination is insane. I’m telling you guys, i was just sitting there with my mouth feeling like heaven. I was in a bliss of ecstatic feel in my mouth, and I wondered if this is how paradise felt. I just sat there in a daze.
The owners are a couple— the man is Sri Lankan, the wife is Malaysian. They thought of the concept of doing something different from everyone else, by making a fusion out of both of their cultures. In my opinion, i think they combined the best of both to make a truly unique taste that you cannot get anywhere else. Furthermore, the only workers are the man, the woman, and their two sons. This is literally just a family operation, and the man told me he wouldn’t feel right to hire employees, that he wants it exactly how they make it and won’t let anyone change anything.
This is a HIDDEN GEM in Montreal. When I finally propose to my girlfriend and get married, I will get Marché Canada Best to cater my wedding. I left this place with the thought in my head: “Forget about Michelin Star Restaurants, this is my type of spot.”
I ate so much, so well, huge portions, maximal taste, for $80. This was enough food for like 4-5 people but we just stuffed ourselves like crazy.
To top it all off, I also ended up getting a Mango Lassi. Honestly, the best Mango Lassi I’ve ever had. It was the necessary conclusion to the night. I couldn’t have a had a better night...

We stumbled upon this incredible Malaysian-Sri Lankan restaurant purely by accident and what a delicious accident it turned out to be. It all started when we were looking for rice to go with some Indian food we had picked up earlier (which surprisingly didn’t come with any). That’s when we found this little spot. The owner, incredibly kind and welcoming, didn’t hesitate to sell us some rice even though we weren’t planning to dine in. But then we saw their Saturday specials and something told us we had to try it.
One bite, and we were completely hooked. The flavors were bold, rich, and absolutely unforgettable. We ended up putting aside our original takeout and fully committing to this new discovery. It was that good.
Sadly, we had to leave town early the next morning, so we didn’t get a chance to come back before heading home. But that one meal lingered in our minds. My husband and I kept talking about it how flavorful everything was, how warm and genuine the couple was, and how we had to come back. We made a promise to ourselves that we’d return the following year.
And we did.
And just like that first time, they did not disappoint. The craving that built up for an entire year was completely satisfied. Their Saturday specials, the nasi lemak, and the noodles they made for my husband every dish was packed with flavor and soul. You can tell they cook with love. Everything tastes homemade in the best way possible comforting, authentic, and deeply satisfying.
What made the experience even more special is the couple who runs it. The husband and wife are some of the kindest people we’ve met humble, friendly, and so welcoming. On our return visit, his wife offered me a cup of chai tea, which was the perfect touch for the cold day. It was warm, fragrant, and felt like a hug in a cup.
We genuinely can’t get enough of their food. I could eat it every day and never grow tired of it. This place is more than a restaurant it’s a reminder of how food, made with heart and care, can create lasting memories. To the amazing husband and wife behind these dishes: thank you. We’ll be back again and again.
Oh.... and did I mention? We came all the way from Boston. We drove almost six hours just to eat here again… and it was...
Read moreAs a Singaporean living in Montreal, I sometimes yearn for my local food. This year, my sudden longing for Nasi Lemak led me to discover 'Restaurant Canada Best'.
It is a clean, nice, and humble restaurant with a homelike atmosphere. It is owned by a husband-wife team (Sri Lankan & Malaysian).
They are kind, honest, friendly, welcoming, approachable, and sincere. They serve Malaysian/Sri Lankan/South Indian (Tamil) style food. The food is very delicious and reasonably priced.
They have a variety of dishes that are found in Malaysia and Singapore. My favorites so far at 'Restaurant Canada Best' are:
1.) Nasi Lemak It is a dish popular in Southeast Asia. The rice is cooked with coconut cream and pandan leaves.
2.) Nasi Goreng Ikan Bilis (crispy anchovy fried rice).
3.) Mutton rolls which are a Sri Lankan snack (they also have chicken or vegetarian rolls).
4.) Saturday Special You have a choice of the lamb, fish, or chicken platter. Each 'Saturday Special' meal also includes ladies finger (okra), shrimps, chicken, anchovies, lentils, papadam, steamed rice, and eggs.
5.) Masala Tea Aromatic tea made using black tea leaves, milk, and spices (cardamoms, cloves, cinnamon, black peppercorn, ginger, etc.)
The restaurant also serves other items like Chicken Rendang, biryani, noodles, fried rice, kottu roti, samosas, fish cutlets, and mango lassi (Google the food items if you'd like to know more). They have vegetarian options too.
My family and I greatly enjoy the food at Restaurant Canada Best.
Please note that they are closed on Sundays.
They are open from 11am to 10pm—Mondays to Saturdays.
Indoor seating can only take 12 customers. Many people prefer takeaways (takeouts). I like to dine in though. 😊
