I am writing this review with so much frustration and disgust. I would leave 0 stars if I had the option.
Let me start by saying that I've been coming to this restaurant for MANY YEARS (5+). In the last year and a half, the service here has decreased drastically.
The women that serve you have no respect. Not to mention, they don't seem to understand anything... They don't say "Please" or "Thank you", in fact, they don't say anything at all. They just stare at you blank in the face until you tell them your order or until you ask them a question.
Last night confirmed to me that I will no longer be coming here. I went to have supper with a friend and everything seemed fine at first... We ordered 2 samosas and vegetable pekora's to start (which came pretty fast - even too fast).. luckily, they were warm and so we assumed they were fresh. We were then ready to order our main dish; I ordered the Butter Chicken Thali and my friend ordered a Masaladosa. After a decent amount of time, my friend got her food, meanwhile I was still waiting for mine... More than 10 minutes passed and I am still waiting. My friend was more than half way done... I look at the waitress and I asked her "Did you forget about my Thali?" and she responded "Yes". She was not apologetic AT ALL. She did not even excuse herself! Not even 2 min later and she brings my food and still no apology. After me and my friend were done, we both got up to leave and no one looked at us or said bye..
The time before this one, they forgot our drinks that we ordered.. Like c'mmon... We were only 2 people. The restaurant was half empty. The waitresses were just walking back and forth the whole time. Did they not notice me waiting for my food while my friend was eating hers.. The people that came after us even got their food before I did.. Moral of the story, they really don't care about their customers. NEVER coming...
Read moreWe always admired Indian cuisine and as per reviews and we heard it is a busier place in Montreal. We assumed that we will have good and tasty food but we were completely wrong.
Firstly the server's attitude. It was ridiculous. She was chewing gum all the time in the restaurant not only while taking orders but also while serving. And her name is Monica.
Second they messed up with our order. Brought appetizers after the main course. Paratha were served first and even after requesting them manytimes at last butter showed up, but by then we were done eating paratha. Mango Lassi was full of colour ingredients. And we could see in saloon paratha there was barely potatoes. And when we asked Monika she said I'll get you another paratha, which never came to us...Like seriously!
Colours on the curry was all over our fingers. First time I experienced food colour used not properly. And most of the servers were teenagers. And there was no team work and communication. Coz we were also supposed to get green chutney with fish pakorha, but it was missing and when after a long wait for the server when we requested it took another 5 minutes for us to get it.
Further we went to make the bill payment at the counter and there was another girl pretty young age, we were trying to tell her about the whole experience in the restaurant but she wasn't even paying attention. All she cared about was to charge us. And didn't even apologize for what happened!!! Very disappointing!
I have seen that once these restaurants gets busy they reduce the taste and good quality. it shouldn't be like that. At last I wanna to suggest place own please reduce the seating if you can't serve them all at a time. I hope my this part will help lot of new people coming to...
Read moreDecent restaurant - my go-to restaurant for Indian food!
Negatives:
Inconsistent, especially quantity. I ordered a batura once and it was 60% of its usual size. But the naan I ordered on the same day was around 20% bigger.
I often feel a bit uncomfortable after eating here. Once I got light food poisoning although it could have been from something else. Maybe I should order less haha.
The starters don't seem fresh and aren't as tasty as the rest of the menu.
Positives:
The main dishes usually taste amazing and are quite good even on the bad days. Butter chicken, shahi paneer, chola batura - you name it - they all taste great.
Their clientele seems quite mixed - lots of Indians but lots of people from other continents as well. It seems that they can prepare food for everyone which is a remarkable skill if you ask me.
The service is quite great. They are fairly busy in the evenings but they try to accommodate you even if you are in a big group or alone. However, it is almost completely empty around 4 pm. But the quality of service doesn't drop.
I saw a couple of the waiters practising french which was heartening to see.
After all the great service, you pay at the counter - the tip is completely optional! This is so marvelous. However, I still leave an extra tip of 10-20$ if I came with a big group and hogged a big table for 3+ hours in the evening.
To be fair, I would probably give them a 4 star if I compared them with indian restaurants in other north american cities. But when I am in Montreal, I come back here again and again. Because the other Indian restaurants are really not great and frighteningly inconsistent.
So, 5 stars for you maison indian curry. Stay awesome and try to be consistent as...
