I recently spent about $45 on food from Jolee for my family, and only after getting it home realised that the supposedly vegetarian items contained meat. The vegetable rolls, the roti rolls - full of what looks like mutton. I messaged the restaurant privately and have received no response - I see from other reviews that I'm not the first person this has happened to.
I asked very clearly at the counter for the vegetable items, and I even asked to make sure "there's no meat in these, right?" and the person serving me confirmed. One roll with meat I could forgive if it had accidentally rolled from one container to another, but in this case they did not know what they were serving and the items had been misplaced in the counter. This is totally unacceptable - people are vegetarian for all sorts of reasons - religious, ethical, health, even allergies... all deserve to be respected. If you say it's meat-free, it has to be meat-free. They could kill someone with a serious allergy this way. Very disappointed - won't be returning after this after many years of being faithful customers.
Old review:
We are SO excited Jolee is finally partnered up with a delivery service (SkipTheDishes). We often get the spicy vegetable rolls for parties, or get a big order and freeze them (they freeze super well) to enjoy a few at a time. Not having to schlep up to the restaurant means we'll definitely be ordering more often!
Our order today was packed really nicely with some excellent tamarind sauce for dipping, and it arrived hot & fresh. We'd love to see some more of their menu available for delivery, like the spicy egg/onion/hot green chili roti they often have in their display case, or the larger fried stuffed roti rolls filled with...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant few times before. But today had a very bad experience from the restaurant person (no idea who is he? owner or someone else), so thought to share it. I went to jolee n parked car in its parking space. Gone for a take-away, it was a long queue which took me around 10 mins. After that I went to another shop nearby for another 15 mins. When I came out the person from jolee said that I should not park the car there. I told him that I already purchased from jolee and went to other store. He was not ready to listen instead of that saying we should not buy $2 item from there and parked the car (however I have purchased $7 item). Sir I want to ask you if someone is buying $20 then he is a customer, if some is buying $5 is not a customer. Instead of that I have a suggestion to write a notice in the parking that it is reserved for Dine-in customer (Not for take-away customer) or minimum amount for purchase ($20 or something). Saying $2 shows your disrespect for the customer so in future please take care of that and please provide the Purchase...
Read moreAttentive staff, great prices, wonderful desserts and the absolute best masala dosa I have eaten in the city.
This is a fantastic place to bring friends and family. The appetizers are quick and full of flavour.
The main courses are very filling, more often than not there will be food to take home (note: bring a food container with you!) and every bite is satisfying.
I have eaten at Restaurant Jolee hundreds of times over the past couple of years because I have a regular commitment in the area on a weekly basis. I feel comfortable inviting friends and dates to the location.
The menu offers such a wide variety that even though I have my favorite selections I will try a new dish every so often.
If you are sensitive towards hot spicy food and find that a dish carries too much burning heat, request some yogurt to help ease the spiciness and it does wonders to cool while enhancing the notes of all the beautiful flavour.
Whether a visitor or a Montréaler, this is a restaurant to...
