Not a 4 star restaurant anymore! We have been here many times before and it used to be a favorite, I am so sorry to report that it's slow decline has now become a free-fall. The service was dreadful and the food didn't come close to making up for it. Uninspired, thrown together, the fish was smelly, lukewarm and pasty. The veal chop quite bland despite its extra cost, over and above that of the 60$ tasting menu. The duck confit was quite ordinary (much like what you'd get out of a box at your local supermarket). The only good dishes were starters, the wild mushrooms with snails in a raw cheese sauce, and the boudin noir - both cost extra like the veal chop. We were there for our reservation at 8:30 and were't out of there until well after midnight, and that was without our last course, we took the dessert to go, (with the bill), since it was getting so late. The waiter was over-tired, half-hearted, unprofessional in the way he spoke about the menu, the way he cleared the table, the absence of bread, among other inattentions, but mostly he was absent. There were only two waitstaff for the whole restaurant, with no support whatsoever, and this on a Friday night with a full house; this particular waiter was not up to the task (to be fair to him, very few would have been). Trying to up-sell our dinner guests who didn't want the full 5 course meal, seemed to be the only real effort made. If this was an inexpensive restaurant I might cut it some slack, but it is pricey, even for a bring your own. I was sincerely a little embarrassed in front of our guests from out of town. the Plateau has so many good restaurants, and with increasing competition from other neighbourhoods like Rosemont, Villeray, Griffintown, even Verdun, I can't see how Bleu Raisin is going to survive much longer if it...
Read more3/13/2018 Bleu raisin is a small restaurant with a warm welcome and homey feeling to it. I had a nice time there. I was expecting simpler food but was pleasantly surprised in fact. The dishes were all so complex. And by complex I mean there was all kind of separate thing that could've made a dish by themselves. The first dish was a smoked salmon piece with aragula salad...a small octopos salad with celeriac in curry remoulade dressing.... And also another one with a piece of dorade and apples. 3 dish in one. All good and different though Main dish was a beef tartare with potatoes,... boudin noir with grilled vegetables... and a crispy eggplant en croute. Again three dish in one. I felt like these didn't fit together quite as the entrée. Dessert was not as good as the rest. Quite odd to my taste. The poached pear with herbs and blue cheese was a weird mix and there was a mushy apple crumble which was quite ordinary. Anything mushy can't be phenomenal. Overall, I went out pleasantly surprised. I would...
Read moreI was debating if I should give one or two stars, but once I remembered the details I went for one. We were there with a large group, the table was reserved for about two weeks. So one would expect that they are prepared. The food quality was less than ordinary, the dishes were with one exception cold or lukewarm. Interestingly the same dishes had different serving sizes, so if you were lucky you had twice as much boudin compared to your neighbour. The service was very slow, although being there before others we were only done when all other tables were long deserted. 4 hours for 5 courses... They probably figured a large group would not just vanish. Luckily there was some bread, although stale, which helped to make it through the evening.
The choices with the 5 course dinner were very limited. But a couple of the dishes listed on the black board were not available either.
Certainly not a place...
