Located across from the park just off of cote-des-neiges karma and up some stairs that they finally fixed up so you don't look like you're going to fall off of them in summer time or winter LOL you enter into a place that looks like you stepped back into Saigon and real homemade food. Real excellent food! and if you're not one of the Vietnamese people eating here or maybe Cambodian or maybe Filipino but usually you wouldn't guess that, then you're still welcome to eat here and the family running the joints is wonderful. He also collects bonsai trees and has a number of them circling the entire small restaurant. But he won't tell me his secrets and I actually asked him the owner. There's a special certain spice and I thought I knew what it was but I still didn't get it right. They put a little something special bise wise and it's not lemongrass quite and is not finely powdered dried coriander not really but I don't know what it is but it's often in the food and it makes it extra extra special! My favorite is letter m from the lunch menu I think it's m or m1 and for like not much money I think the price even went down $2 I told the owner and he smiled, a huge Vietnamese soup and a couple of rolls done either deep-fried or that white turned around saying with shrimp with a peanut butter dipping sauce I mean this is really good food. however the restaurant is not particularly attractive and it's just a bunch of tables with seats and I'm not wonderful location but they are wonderful and so is the food and the price is good too. If you want good food if you want really good food, then this is a place to go for a wonderful Vietnam experience. Actually just thinking about it my mouth is watering it's sad good! One of my business associates actually drives in a good 10 minutes or so from his office to eat here a few times a week very often and I ran into him I was the first time I saw the happy face on him and now I...
Read moreI decided to try out this restaurant for the first time. I researched online and it had great reviews. It was also recommended to me by a friend. Due to the pandemic, the restaurant only offered take-out.
I ordered an XL special Tonkinese soup (phở Dặc Biệt). Once I unwrapped my order at home, I was very disappointed.
First, I opened the container with the soup. The broth was clear and aromatic. However, there was only one beef ball (divided by two) floating in the container. Second, I opened the container with the meats. There was rare beef and well done flank with a ratio consisting of 70% fat to 30% meat. However, there were no beef tendons and no beef tripes. Third, I opened the bag with the sides. There was a nice amount of mung bean sprouts accompanied by one Thai chili and a lime wedge but the traditional Thai basil was substituted by sprigs of coriander. Fourth, let’s explore the condiments. I thought they had forgotten to give Sriracha sauce, however, they squirted it on top of the Hoisin sauce recipient instead of giving two separate containers. By the way, the recipient for the condiment was so small compared to other pho restaurants. It was the size of a loonie. Finally, there were no utensils and napkins in the bag.
The only positive comments were the amount of rice noodles given and the time it took to get my order.
At the restaurant, I was told to pay cash and was not given a receipt.
Unfortunately, I do not recommend eating at this restaurant. I believe I would have had a better experience if it was dined-in. This is the worst Dặc Biệt soup I...
Read moreHaving recently moved to Montreal, I decided to give this place a try after hearing good things from my coworkers. Coming from L.A. and having pho as a staple in my weekly diet, I'm pretty well acquainted with good and bad pho. I can easily say that this place deserves the positive reviews it has been getting as its definitely the real deal and in the top 3 pho spots in the city. I went there on a Sunday afternoon and was shocked but happy to see the lineup of eager patrons waiting to get in. I figured this must be a good place if this many people are waiting to eat pho, especially on a hot and humid day! When I finally got my seat, I started off with an order of the fresh spring rolls and was impressed that they give you 2 rolls per order, as some other places will offer 1 roll cut into 2 pieces. The peanut dipping sauce offers a nice compliment to the taste as well. When it came to the pho, I ordered the traditional DAC BIET and was instantly impressed with the rich and deep color of the broth as well as the healthy portion size. The broth is rich in flavor, and for those who appreciate a good broth you'll definitely pick up on the complex layers of clove, cinnamon, star anise and whatever other magic ingredients makeup this intense bowl of flavor. Finished off with the traditional Vietnamese dessert drink of coconut milk, red beans and green jelly called CHE BA MAU, and will admit that this was my only disappointment as it fell flat in flavor, but in all honestly I came here for the pho. Overall, this place definitely deserves the...
