Just north of the corner at Laurier and St. Laurent Blvd, Tsak Tsak (formerly L'Inconnu) is a quaint casual breakfast/brunch bistro with a larger menu that should satisfy most, if not all, tastes.
The restaurants atmosphere has potential but could definitely use some work. From the street view window the décor is casual bohemian but when you enter the kitchen and relevant equipment is exposed, along with some storage shelving...it could be easily covered up to help convey a more lux experience.
That said, our meal was quite good. We ordered a hot chocolate (very good...using real chocolate and not from powder), the Bagel Salmon (very good...but could have had the bagel toasted and added red onions to the plate...if you order this, make sure to ask the server as it will help a lot) and Pear French Toast (excellent...using brioche bread and a sautéed pear with cheese curds and nuts...somewhat like a french toast poutine...something unique and very tasty).
Service was good and the food arrived relatively quickly but they were clearly short staffed and a patron rush would have put pressure on them. Overall I would have given them 4.5...
Read moreWe stopped for a late lunch in our nephew’s neighborhood on a chilly January afternoon. The menu at the entrance caught our eye, and we decided to give it a try. Little did we know, we were in for a delightful surprise!
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a super warm welcome. We were promptly seated at our table, and after some brief explanations of the menu, we were ready for lift-off.
As the plates started to come out, our first thoughts were, “This looks tasty!” The portions were generous, and the presentation was inviting. As a lover of spicy food, the house pepper sauce stole the show for me. It was perfectly balanced and elevated our dishes to a whole new level.
After indulging in heavenly desserts and great coffee, we had a lovely chat with the owner. She shared the fascinating history of Tsak Tsak and how it came to be. What a wonderful lady!
I can’t wait to visit again soon (sorry it took me this long to post...
Read moreThis place has it's pros & cons. Some things that should be well done at a good brunch spot are not quite up to par, but some parts are unexpectedly good. On the flop side for me, were the eggs. I ordered poached & the eggs came in two different consistencies. One was not poached at all. The meats were all pretty well cooked. The potatoes were alright. The toast was unexpectedly good. Another surprise hit was their housemade lemonade, it was reminiscent of Mexican Agua frescas with the sediment at the bottom. The menu variety was alright but not spectacular, certainly covered the basics. The interior was pleasant & spacious but unfortunately lacked air conditioning. Service was another strong point, our server was very polite & professional. This place could bump up to a 5 star no problem with a...
