Royal Sous-Marins — Restaurant in Montreal

For over 75 years Royal Sous-marin has been serving up Greek and Quebecois fast food and full meal favourites while maintaining quality and value — even in today’s difficult market conditions.

Unlike some of these type of old-school diners the service and cleanliness here are exemplary.

I had wanted to try this cool spot for a while, so finally went for a late lunch and had a chicken souvlaki pita with fries and a Pepsi (as a trio).

It was freshly made and perfectly cooked. With ample chicken on a thicker whole wheatish pita that was a unique highlight of the meal. The tzatziki was smooth and a bit savoury which worked with the pure flat top grilled chicken pieces. Plenty of fries with no skimping on the mayo on the side and a basket of ketchup packets on every table. Such a handy and equally smart touch.

Shout out to Steve and Katrina who were quite friendly and made me feel welcome.

Also to mention they now have an online ordering platform that comes with 10% off plus their own delivery person and also Uber Eats is available.

The menu is huge! I had a hard time picking something.

On my first visit I ordered a cheese steak sub. Everything was good except there wasn't enough cheese. The bread is nice and warm. The salad has a super nice dressing to it. It's a very good sub.

On my second visit I ordered a poutine, kinda disappointed with it. Fries resembled Mcdonalds fries so they weren't really appropriate for poutine. Very thin and long. Not that much cheese and the sauce wasn't warm so the cheese stayed hard and made the whole plate cold.

Overall I did enjoy both of my visits, i would definitely come back and try...

I don’t know what happened to this place—I remember the food being so good. I just went recently, and it’s sad how awful it has become. I’m not sure if it’s under different ownership or management, but the quality has completely gone downhill.

The portions are small, the fries were hard and tasteless, the submarine barely had any meat in it, and the bread was just awful. On top of that, the prices are way too high for what you’re getting. It’s really disappointing to see a place I used to love end up like this.

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it anymore, and I won’t be returning...
