I recommend Naada to everyone. I've been to 3 other studios in Montreal; Naada is in a class of its own. I can hardly say enough nice things about it. It is downright utopian.
SPACE * The studio is very big and spacious. There is great natural lighting in the yoga room and the lounge area. The yoga room is equipped with props, straps for wall yoga and is clean and well kept. The lounge has couches, a rotating selection of herbal tea and a library of books on yoga, somatics, philosophy and spirituality which they encourage people to ask about (probably because this will lead lovers of books and spirituality to discover their supplier, Sea of Tranquility - an extremely unique and affordable hidden resource near TMR - check it out!!!) The location in Mile End is also perfect, steps from Cafe Gamba which has delicious coffee and Champs des Possibles, a nature reserve with ample places to sit, rest and reflect before or after practice.
YOGA * There is a good variety of classes most days. Classes lean advanced but I prefer that since it's easier to soften a hard class than find a challenge in an easy one. Classes are fully bilingual which can be hard to find in Montreal and made a big difference for me. My favourite class for a good work-out is "yang to yin". I also recommend "restorateur" for anyone looking for something slower with more room for emotional release. The teachers here are some of the best I've ever had - advanced practitioners who clearly enjoy teaching and are good at it, consistently bringing thought, care and variety to their sequences, as well as occasional meditations and drone music (ie., bells, a Shruti box - "Naada" means "sound" so that is a focus at the studio). I particularly appreciated classes with Pascale, Emily and Anna. Beyond being excellent teachers they are also really open-minded and kind. Once I forgot my yoga pants and Anna overheard and offered to lend me hers; another time I asked Pascale to play the Shruti box for a performance art piece, it didn't work out but she was game and even asked around to see if someone else at Naada could help me out. Another bonus is that after each class the teacher hangs around the lounge so you can ask them questions and chat.
SAUNA * The sauna was what drew me to switch from my previous studio. It is quite big with nice lighting, ambient sound, clean and smells like wood. In the winter and spring I would hop in the sauna after class for an extended savasana and leave the place feeling reborn.
WORKSHOPS * The space is sometimes booked by visiting artists and healers for workshops related to yoga, sound, meditation, etc. I signed up for a workshop on sonic meditations and enjoyed it immensely.
COST * The intro offer is a no-brainer, 3 months unlimited for $175. Mat storage is an extra $5 a month, super reasonable. Honestly for what you are getting here I think the price is worth every penny.
Naada has been an integral part of my healing process over the last 3 months. It just has it all! I'm so grateful to have found it. Sadly I am moving away, but if I ever come back to Montreal I will be renewing my subscription here for sure. Thank...
Read moreThe studio is thougtfully designed. Clean and spacious. The teachers can't really attend to the on-site participant ( with adjustments ) as the class is being zoomed online at the same time. They have updated the infrared sauna schedule with more timings. Hopefully they'll add few more hours in the week if there is a demand. Overall I recommend.
April 2024 update following -
While I am trying out other studios, I must say they have the best soundscape on the entire premises (studio & sauna). Their sound atmosphere is unbeatable, especially in our...
Read moreThis is the best yoga spot I've been to. I'm advanced in my yoga practice - but I usually do it alone at home. What makes this place awesome: a rock shoe rack, first class is free, rent a yoga mat for $2, lots of yoga accessories to use, peaceful Zen interior, a great encouraging teacher, meditation and a short om chant at the end, changerooms (no showers) and finally: green tea and roibos tea served in authentic iron cups in a lounge...
