As any enthusiast of traditional Greek cuisine, I am very picky in the way I characterize what is a good greek restaurant and what isn't. Chain restaurants just don't hit the spot like homemade greek cooking. I was starting to lose hope that perhaps Montreal just had the misfortune of not having a greek restaurant that checked all my criterias for good greek cooking. That was until I was recommended Thanos Terrace. The moment I entered I received a warm welcome from the owner Philly which made sure to pass by our table frequently to make we were okay and that everything was to our liking. And to our liking it was!! I had the entree of Spanakopita and let me tell you it was absolutely wonderful, the philo dough was fresh and tasted like it had just just been made, unlike many other restaurants which keep it frozen and defreeze it 15 minutes before serving it, this spanakopita was unlike any i've had before. Then I ordered the plate of Lukaniko and it was at that moment that i knew they would be crowned as best greek restaurant in MTL. Since my first visit I just absolutely have to go at least once a month, it might be something in the food but there's something incredibly addicting about the amazingness of Thanos Terrace. Any greek connaisseur owes it to themselves to try it out, in my honest opinion no other restaurant comes close to the quality, warmth, and overall excellence that this restaurant has to offer. 11/10 recommend, and has ample varieties for all pallets and preferences. Do yourself a favour and book a reservation to Thanos Terrace, you will not regret it!! Thank you Philly again for this amazing experience, I will always be a loyal...
Read moreDecided to eat here with a party of 7 visiting Montreal. I am confused and concerned why this restaurant has a 4.7 rating after our experience. We called ahead for a reservation and were told they were fully booked and had one spot left in the heated outside seating area. We arrived on time and found our table to be warm and spacious. We ordered 3 appetizers being; calamari, caesar salad, and spanakopita. There was a 20-30 minute gap between both appetizers- the spanakopita never arrived, the Caesar salad was drenched in dressing from a jar, the calamari was the only decent dish. After waiting another 40-50 minutes we were informed the kitchen was behind and our mains would be out shortly. After another 20 minutes 5/7 of our mains arrived, the last two following shortly after. After the mains arrived they looked sad and dismal. The souvlaki platters were all overcooked, flavourless, and accompanied by overcooked plain rice and potatoes. The pizza we ordered was raw and had to be sent back. The lamb had minimal seasoning, with rice that appeared more like portage. It was too late to wait for it to be cooked longer, so we asked for the bill instead. We expressed our concerns and disappointment to our waiter who agreed and waived the pizza from our bill and the missing spanakopita. The restaurant was busy, with all tables filled, yet if this restaurant cannot keep up with the demand, I strongly suggest they space out their reservations to what they can upkeep at a higher standard. If the food had been good the wait would have been easier to justify, but the whole experience fell short. Better Greek food can be found at...
Read moreThe bad: Even though the restaurant was empty inside (only busy on the terrace), the service was really not great. We had to ask to get our water refill, and it took a good 10min until they came back with the water. The server was almost never present, so most of the meal our glasses of water were empty. It also took a really long time to receive the main dish and for a table of 2 we didn't receive it at the same time. So one of us was almost done with their plate before the other received it. (It would have been cold if we had to wait for both plates to arrive) I understand it can happen for a big group of people, but a table of 2 and not sending the dishes at the same time is really not great.
The pork souvlaki was good, but the chicken souvlaki inside the pita was really dry. Also, I don't suggest paying the extra 7 $ to get the greek salad instead of the house salad. The only difference between both was 3 olives, 3 little pieces of cheese, and one pepper. I would say it's probably more worth it if you choose the Ceasars or horiatiki salad instead of the greek.
The good: the fried calamari was a bit chewy but overall good. the rice and potatoes were good, but the salad that is included with the main dishes comes as a starter before everything else. So if you like to eat your salad with the rest of your main dish, you can't.
The great: the terrace is really pretty and calm, so the atmosphere is great...
