We had and amazing experience at this restaurant, starting from the reservations weeks ago to by boydfriend's birthday dinner last night! If I could give them 6 stars I would ! I researched a lot of restaurants for my boyfriend's birthday because he loves steak and I don't know that much about it. I ended up going with Tuck Shop because I saw many good reviews on Reddit regarding their Hanger Steak. Since I'd never been, I dm'd their instagram account to ask some questions about the menu and ways to make the evening special for my boyfriend. From the get-go, the whole team was amazing and kind and professional. I first asked about getting a menu printed without the prices, but they ended up making us a custom Tasting Menu that was to DIE FOR! Their attention to detail was incredible, with adding my boyfriend's name to the menu and sitting us in a corner. They put us at a 4 ppl table, so we had plenty of space, it felt very cozy and they put a bunch of flowers on the table. It was raining (even though we're in august) and I was worried about our comfort, but they were very nice and reassured me and put us right beneath a heater. The service was wonderful, plates were explained to us, the food was SO GOOD. Everything melted in your mouths, it felt very gastronomic and home-made. The plates were gorgeous, the different tastes went very well together and the chef came out and presented us the dessert. The servers were all so kind and interested in us, making the evening so memorable. The vibe was STUNNING!! There were cute little outisde lights that made it romantic too. They gave us all three of their desserts and added a little candle for my boyfriend to blow as well as a complimentary after-dinner-liqueur. The owner and the whole team clearly worked together to make this night remarkable and extraordinary for us :) I can't stop gushing about this night and our experience, they definetely gained a new and loyal fan and free advertising to all of my friends and family haha

First, let's address the outside of the restaurant, looks a bit too sketchy for the price point, however as soon as we got through the doors, it's definitely well decorated. Second, the chef seat (seats facing the kitchen). It was really interesting to watch the cooks, however, the main focal point that we could see, he wasn't prepping our food, except the oysters, he was prepping for the shift (we arrived as they opened, 5pm). I was hoping to see more of our dishes garnished/prepped, since we went for the sampling menu. Third, the drinks, we can't comment as we don't drink alcohol and chose to just stick with water. Fourth, the food.you can tell the cooks are exquisitely skilled and masters at what they do. That being said, for 100+ per person, I must nitpick. The food was just slightly too salty. Some elements of some dishes I couldn't stomach because of the salt levels. For reference, I usually never drink water with my meals, I was chugging water between each course. The ingredients definitely are super fresh and of high quality. The sampling menu is 105$ per person. Portions were big and filling. The food is very good but not fantastic because it was too salty. Fifth, the service. The service is impeccable. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to help. Clean dishes after every service. Lots of water filling. Big smile. Exceptionally attentive. 10/10 The tldr, ambiance 10/10, ingredients 10/10, service 10/10, cook skills 10/10, how salty the dishes were 6/10. Seeing our dished being cooked 4/10 : only saw our oysters being shucked, would've been nice to have the chefs talk to us (not a single word was spoken by the chef). I believe your experience will be better than mine, the staff and chefs do seem to take the feedback very seriously. :)

We've been to Tuck Shop a handful of times now. I never walk into a restaurant expecting to be disappointed, but the old addage goes "nobody bats a thousand". Tuck Shop. Tuck Shop bats a thousand. This time around we started with the Quebec snow crab legs, followed by the duck breast and the lobster pasta. The crab was sweet, and able to speak for itself. They got out of the way, took the deshelling difficulty with them, and let the flavour shine (with flavoured mayo and cocktail sauce on the side, should one want to dabble). The lobster pasta was perfectly cooked, and not over salted - something I have experienced with so many lobster pasta dishes in the past, that I figured that's just how the world worked. The duck breast dish was the star of the show for me. My amateur words cannot give the flavour its dues. The Dion Waiters award goes to the celery root puree that put up big numbers in a limited game time. Dessert was the olive cake (with rhubarb and vanilla ice cream), and a peach frozen yogurt sandwich. Strong contenders, but still unable to dethrone the homemade apple pie we had on our first visit as my Tuck Shop dessert GOAT. The service was quick, and ever-friendly - a staple of any visit to Tuck Shop. The recommended wine pairings for our mains were right on the money. (Disclaimer: we are far from sommeliers or wine connoisseurs.) We are already looking forward to our next Tuck Shop adventure.

Please, please, please. Please introduce some sound deadening material in the room.  The walls and ceiling are all hard surfaces.  Even the large pieces of art on the walls had hard surfaces. We were a table of 4 and it was so loud that we could not hear the person across from us without cupping our ears and leaning in.  That does not make for a relaxed dining experience. There was only one wine/drink list offered to us.  It was awkward as we had to wait one-by-one for our turn at the list.  Could you not provide 4 drink lists, or at least two, for a table of 4? The food was good, but none of the 8 dishes were memorable.  The menu is extremely limited so I feel the dishes should "wow" since there might not be something that actually grabs your interest.  The bluefin tuna appetizer that I had was attractive, but the fish itself was tasteless. Service was not impressive.  I am not sure whether it was due to lack of staff or lack of training.  I had to wait at the door for several minutes for someone to return to seat our group.  One server (who I am sure had good intentions) swept past and grabbed the wine bottle off our table without checking whether it was empty (it wasn't).  Our server suggested that, since the hanger steak that evening was quite large, it could be split between two of us.  Great idea.  But when the steak came there was only one plate.  We asked for a second plate and were told "sure", or "right away", or something reassuring.  Several minutes later, with the steak and frites getting cold, we had to flag down another server and ask again for a second plate.  This time it did arrive promptly. Service was slow.  I don't blame the kitchen - food came out quite quickly.  But dirty dishes sat on our table for way too long.  The plates from our main courses were there so long that we finally stopped someone and asked them to take them away.  The restaurant was half empty at that point so the servers were not that busy. At that point we had been there for more than 2 hours and so fed up with the service we just asked for the bill without waiting to find out the...

Again, photos as there are plenty available.

The owners and staff are experience seasoned restaurateurs and this place is on the level of a Joe Beef and many other high end high quality establishments that are often feature restaurants in Montreal - acting as gastronomical beacons of what is the Montreal food scene.

Atmosphere. Excellent. Cosy and a little tight in the seating but it all works.

Service. Staff are superbly knowledgeable about the dishes being served at a personal level and can discuss every dish and its process and ingredients at the level you would expect. Impressive.

Food. Excellent. Simply excellent. This is fine dining without the fine dining price. No it’s not cheap, but it’s also not fine high end dining pricing. But it is fine dining and the environment is cute and fun and the bar is also awesome.

Overall. Their menu changes often so if you can ask the chef to make his special appetizer if pork belly cooked three way with a fine mushroom sauce you will blow your mind with each bite. I often just have a couple of order of this as my main dish.

Their raw bar is superb and a quality I think that above Lucille’s. Their burrata is also awesome. Their fish dishes are always perfectly prepared and with perfect texture.

Any meat/beef dish you order will also be delicious such as their short ribs or steak. They have done ossi buco - excellent, duck and chicken with perfect crisp skin and juicy meat, and I can go on and on. All I can say is go with a group so you can al share all the wonderful dishes served here as you will it be let down. I’ve come here for years and have not had one unhappy experience. I personally love to eat in front of the chef Theo (and co owner along with Amelia and Jon). What a great team and time is proof. They have become a staple in Montreal at the level of every tourist must eat at this place.

Bottom line. Yes. A definite do again and again and infinity.

Thanks to ownership and chef for the wonderful years of great food and service as its...
