Tragically, Nana Sushi's tonkatsu Ramen has fallen off... a cliff. What was once great Ramen with melt-in-your-mouth pork rolls, perfectly made jammy eggs, and exquisite flavor is now disappointing Ramen with a smaller serving size of tough pork chop in disguise, a soft boiled egg (not a jammy egg), and medicore flavour. However the noodles and broth haven't changed. Additionally, on the phone we were told our order would be ready for pick up in 15 minutes. When I arrived I was told it would be 5 more minutes. "Okay, thats fine" I said. They must be busy I thought to myself. 10 more minutes went by and I was told they were working on the order right now and could not tell me how much longer it would be. 5 minutes later they told me the order was ready so I paid. However the order was in fact not ready yet. Nearly 10 minutes later the order was finally ready. If only I knew the disappointment that I was walking out with, but all I could think about was the burning of my flesh as hot Ramen began to spill out of the bag onto my hand. Please Nana Sushi bring back the way it used to be- fast and decisive service and high quality Ramen. We know you can...

I’ve been here twice since moving to Nanaimo and as a self proclaimed sushi connoisseur, I can confidently say this little unassuming sushi shop does it better than any other.

Service is timely, presentation is great, and the atmosphere is how I imagine any good sushi shop in Japan would look, a hole-in-the-wall mom & pop shop with cute decor and pretty blue toilet water. They even have a refreshing high speed fan running in the dining area, which fluttered my napkinz onto the floor when I picked up my chopsticks. But the nice man beside me bent down, gathered them all a-crumpled and said loudly, “now you got dirty napkinz, Darlin!”, to which the waitress promptly replaced them.

Anyways, my favourites are the tempura yam roll, and the chicken roll. I crave them in my sleep and if I had all the money in the world I would only eat here till I...

I used to come here all the time when I was a university student living in Nanaimo. I now live on the other side of the country but was in town to visit and stopped by at my old favourite sushi place. I was really disappointed with the quality of service- it took over half an hour just to get water (had to ask 3 times), my friend ordered an appetizer that never arrived but then they had added it to the bill at the end. There was only one server and she seemed very stressed out. I think the focus was on takeout orders and not the dine in. Hopefully it will be better next year when I visit again. The food quality was still great but the service was really lacking.

Edit: I do appreciate the owner reaching out after reading my review! This place is still #1 in my books, I understand bad...

We began our meal with takoyaki and miso soup, which turned out to be delightfully flavorful. For the mains, I ordered the sweet and spicy beef don followed by the mayo beef don for my wife-both dishes were generous in portion and richly satisfying. My children opted for the tonkatsu, and to our surprise, the accompanying soup came with a whole egg, rather than the usual half-slice. The servings were so large that they couldn’t finish, and we had to request a takeaway box. To end the evening, we enjoyed a mochi dessert, whose soft and delicate texture truly elevated the experience. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable meal—a solid thumbs up from our entire family.

Was looking for a quick dinner and came in close to closing and they still served me with a smile. It was my first time here so I decided to order the Chau’s Nagasaki Jjamppong. It did not disappoint. Very flavorful and seasoned beautifully. I do not know how to cook this item nor the methods used to complete the dish. But it had a wonderful wok flavor that was imparted to the soup base. I do not know if I wok was even used to cook it. The chasu was soft and chewy. The vegetables included in the broth was a nice surprise. I pretty munched finished off the soup base. Highly recommend and would come back. The gentleman server was really nice.
