We actually went specially to Nanaimo island just for this cafe, however it's such a disappointment. The male staff member who took the order wasn't really friendly nor interested in making any suggestions for what we should order he should be able to notice it's our first visit to the cafe and it's would be nice if he offer to give us some suggestions of their menus or a small chit chats since the cafe is not busy (no customer queuing behind us) after we ordered he didn't reconfirm/ repeat our order when we make a payment, he also didn't ask if we want a receipt so we didn't check the order.
When the drinks were served it was 3 drinks instead of 2 so I only went to take 2 drinks since i only ordered 2 drink, later on the girl server came and brought the other drink to us asking if we ordered this and I told her no.. we only ordered 2 drinks & 3 dishes,(1 BYOB , 1 engplants toast with egg Benedict, and salmon soup) she went back and talked to the male staff who took our order and he came with the drink to our table saying this is our order and he already charged us for this drink, when he came to our table he didn't say sorry or apologies.. I told him no we didn't order 3 drinks since it's only 2 of us, and he replied but you ordered 3 dishes. Since I don't want to ruin my day we finally ask to put the drink in a to go cup.
It's the matter of his attitude that is disappointing in our visit to this cafe. The girl staff was really friendly and thoughtful when she delivered our meal asking if we wanted any sauce and. Although the food is not special, the salmon soup is nice and the cafe atmosphere is unique and a nice cafe to...
Read moreThe vault holds a special place in my heart. Ive come here for years, ever since I moved to nanaimo. I also met my boyfriend here. I like going to open mic night when I can and the food isn’t bad at all. The pesto Mac and cheese is pretty delish.
That saying, this morning I stopped to study for a bit before I had to make an appointment. I ordered a cheesecake square and a London fog after a few minutes. I sat down at a table with my computer. It was pretty busy when I came in but there was seating. I had finished my food. Poured myself a glass of water and was drinking the tea while studying. A guy with a grey beard and glasses. Maybe 60-ish came up to me and said, “This is a restaurant.” While pointing at my water. I was kinda gobsmacked and I told him there was a table in front of me that was clear as I thought he was a customer perturbed by me taking a table. He said, “I know. What are you doing?” I replied, “Im studying. Do you work here?” He said “Yeah, I do. If you’re going to study then go to a library. This is a restaurant.” He walked away and went behind the counter. I quickly packed my bag, drank the rest of my tea and left. It has made me quite upset. I had only spent about an hour and ten there and would’ve left after another ten to make my appointment.
Anyways, I’d give customer service a zero today. I’m a server and I understand that sometimes people just irk the crap out of you but I’ve never talked to someone like that nor would I. I would’ve appreciated being spoken to nicer but oh well. I’ll most likely come back for open mic sometime.
Thank...
Read moreMy sister and I have made the Vault a regular stop of ours, but recently the service and reliability of food has seemed to really go downhill. When the food and drinks are good, it's insanely good. But when they're not I'm a little choked with how much I've spent on a sandwich or mac'n'cheese. I've had servers forgot about an order, served my friend allergens when they've specified their issues (and received confirmation that the kitchen would be able to accomodate them).
The straw that has left a very bad taste in my friends and my mouth was our experience on New Year's Eve. The day before (the 30th) we confirmed with staff that there was a public event in the evening and tickets were not being sold or required. We asked if 7pm would be an okay time to arrive to order food/get a booth. When we arrived the Vault was completely closed until 8pm (according to a blackboard outside the door). At 8pm, we were told it would be another 15 minutes and at this point there was a small crowd that had formed waiting to be let in. At 8:15, we were told that this was a ticketed event, which was sold out. There was no information that I could find online about the night either so I could have informed myself.
The lack of communication between staff members, the artists playing that night, and especially to the patrons has left a very sour taste in my mouth, and I don't feel I can in good faith...
