Have been going to this restaurant for 28 years ever since we moved up from Toronto. That was where my original favorite chinese food restaurant of 20 years changed owners and was so bad it closed shortly after.
Up until then, these two restaurants had one thing in common that they were famous for, the best fresh made jumbo breaded shrimp in their respective cities. Now 4 Seasons has decided to cut corners and use some disgusting frozen breaded shrimp with scrawny shrimp surrounded by a terrible thick doughy batter.
The reason I know this is because a third chinese restaurant in another city who used to have the same great fresh made jumbo breaded shrimp also decided to cut corners and get their breaded shrimp from a supplier. It is the same disgusting scrawny shrimp in the same disgusting thick doughy batter.
When you make the jumbo breaded shrimp fresh you can control the size of the shrimp and the thickness of the batter. When you give up your integrity and cut corners and buy it from a supplier you offer a substandard low quality product. Other reviewers I have read pointed out the same disgusting change in the breaded shrimp. Even more disgusting, given the size of the scrawny shrimp they still have the nerve to describe it as "jumbo breaded shrimp" which of course has been wrong all along because using a breading is different than using a batter.
And of course to cut corners it is not just the shrimp, I think they have switched al battered items from fresh to supplied products. Needless to say I will never use this...
Read moreI heard a lot of good things from my friends of this joint so I decided to give it a try and order the dinner for 4. I have to admit that it’s not what I expected. I’m afraid not in a good way. The spring rolls are soggy, the breaded shrimp is mostly dough, fried rice is mediocre at best, the egg rolls are good and really like that the chicken balls are not real doughy at all in fact they were quite delicious. The chicken guy ding is mostly celery with no more then a few pieces of carrots and onions. The beef chop suey I found is very watery to a point that very close to half of this particular dish is full of water/broth. The meat portions on all of the dishes (Besides the shrimp) is good. Otherwise, there is room for...
Read more4 Seasons has been around a long time. Was generally the go to for most Newmarket people but it changes owners, a lot it would seem and every time it does, you get a different meal. So what was good, not good anymore. As stated on other reviews, chicken balls have noticeably smaller bits of chicken in them and way too much dough. I assume this is the first place one can skimp. Cantonese Chow Mein ordered. Normally full of beef and chicken and pork. Almost no pork and very little beef. So 4 Seasons, you may be saving some money but you will lose customers in the process. There is now dozens of alternatives, you would do well to not upset you base clients. Like me. I will not be back, no point when so...
