I love this place. Have been going regularly since the place has opened. We go almost every week for lunch on Saturday and periodically for dinners as well as the special events they host. I am also a mug club member. I have seen the staff change, the menus evolve and the beer list expand. At this point it feels more like visiting family than going to a pub. When we walk in we are always greeted with a cheerful hello from the hostesses who know to just let us walk to our regular spot. When sat we are greeted again by both bar staff and waitresses as they come and go to fill orders, as well as the other regulars also sitting at the bar. The kitchen staff will also come and say hello to us when they notice us there as they go back and forth to the kitchen. We cheerfully chat to all of them about the week’s events and goings on. The regular menu items are all of excellent quality given the price point and the menu changes seasonally (quarterly typically) and there are also various new specials to try each week. Never gets boring. I have to say I am a little confused by some of the negative reviews I see on here, especially with regards to service. I can only assume there was some miscommunication or misunderstanding by the person dong the review and the staff and they probably didn’t give the staff the opportunity to correct the situation or they were overly demanding. I would easily recommend this pub to my friends and family as well as the other two restaurants in the group.

July 5, 2025 - our party of 4 were checking out the weekend Farmers Market in Newmarket when we decided to grab lunch somewhere. We walked along the main strip and came upon Hungry Brew Hops (HBH) that had a decent patio - a small portion in front and the alley. Unfortunately, the alley seating exposed us to too much sun despite the umbrella at our table, so we moved over to the next table closer to the street after the patrons left. The server was attentive at first but fell off the map halfway thru our meal and when we were ready to pay and leave. Additionally, the speakers were too loud that it was difficult to have a conversation without raising our voices. Thankfully, the food was not too bad. The crust of the Lucky Ducky was crunchy and topping portions were decent. Unfortunately, the “duck” pieces on my pizza was mainly skin and it was much smaller in diameter than my friend who ordered the same pizza but not gluten free. Overall a good lunch out on a patio with friends. Would come back and try something else on the menu.

I came here with my girlfriend for dinner. We ordered two burger meals HBH burger and the wagyu with two berry type liqueur drinks. The fries were cooked in old dirty vat oil. The HBH burger was pure grease and the Wagyu burger was dry with no flavour. The drinks were not made right period with the drink wrong colour and couldn’t taste any liquor. The staff was spoken too about the food quality and my bill reduced by one meal. I wanted to argue the food quality some More but my girlfriend insisted we leave. For the amount of money to be spent on food I expect good quality all the time. When we walked into this place all I could smell was bleach and not food. That’s a turn off for a food establishment. Not saying cleaning is bad. We well never be back and will not recommend this establishment to anyone.

UPDATED 11/2023: HBH has really fallen off from it's glory days. The food quality has gone down hill substantially. Portion sizes are not reflective of the price, and the quality of the ingredients certainly isn't up to par the way it used to. If the prices were $4 - $10 less per item then it would be fine, but at these prices (even in this inflated economy) it's not reflective. I stopped ordering food there late into the pandemic because the quality of food dropped off, and it has never recovered.

The beer selection has deteriorated as well. They've never restored as many taps as they had pre-pandemic. The pricing for the beers is also ridiculous. $9 - $10 for a pint is quite pricey. A flight for $14 is also absurd.

Service has also really dropped off. The staff seem disinteresteds and are not attentive.

As someone who used to be a regular here it is really sad to see how far HBH has fallen off. Look no further than my original review below from 5 years ago. It's just not worth it anymore unless they make drastic changes.

ORIGINAL: HBH changes up their menu a few times a year, so I won't post individual foods that are really good because they can be switched out with something new at any point. On the menu there is something for everyone. There are great selections of Meat options, Vegan options, Appetizers, Salads, Pizzas, and more. The only thing I would say the menu is lacking is a variety of dessert options. There are usually only 2 or 3 options. But, if you are coming to HBH, you are most likely coming for the beer. There is a large selection of rotating taps of Craft Beers from all over Ontario. There are some staple beers that are always on tap, but the rest of the taps feature rotations of IPA's, IIPA's, PA's, APA's, Stout's, Porter's, Sour's, Witbier's, Pilsner's, Lager's, and Ciders. The beer is very reasonably priced. They also have a decent selection of wines if that is your thing. Service is excellent. The staff are very friendly an attentive. Just be mindful that the food is a little on the expensive side in my opinion. I would definitely suggest that you go to HBH if you like beer...

We went for what we thought was going to be a special evening out and arrived about 10 p.m.

Our waitress was lovely and recommended a nice pink girly beer drink for . I ordered the cheddar jalapeno cornbread (rated a 9!), which was delicious although 4 pieces was too much for me. My friend ordered the roasted marrow bone and was hugely disappointed. Expecting a nice pate-type appetizer, what was served should have just been fed to our dog. It looked disgusting and rated a 2.

We both ordered the KFC tacos. The 3 soft tacos were way too small and thin and could never possibly be wrapped around the contents piled on top. We both ended up just using our knife and fork, which is not the way a taco should be eaten, in our opinion. A better suggestion might be to serve the same amount of chicken and toppings on 1 or 2 larger/thicker soft tacos. The flavours were delicious though and we rated them a 7.5.

Although we did expect the place to be pretty lively inside, unfortunately the two idiots that were seated beside us spent their time F-bombing every 5 seconds, guffawing in ear-piercing screechy laughs, and making disgusting comments about any girl that walked by or one-upping each other's stories about the "stupid chicks" they tried to hit on. Also, the tables were so close together it was impossible NOT to hear these two buffoons. We might as well have been sitting with them.

The general noise level was way too loud to be able to enjoy each other's conversation, and as described above, the tables were so close to each other we also had to keep protecting our drinks every time somebody walked by, the menu was a mish-mash and nothing really flowed on the page, and my friend said the washrooms were terrible.

We could not wait to get out of there and will NOT be going back nor would we recommend HBH to...

I was long contemplating whether to write this review or not and decided to go ahead with it, with hopes that perhaps the management will better their customer service skills going forward. We were looking for a place to eat around Main Street and decided to go to HBH. When we entered I noticed was a funky unpleasant smell there, which already had me second guessing the choice to eat there. We also had three very hungry kids with us so first thing we ordered were the kids meals and drinks. When the waiter finally came with all of our drinks, and to take the rest of the order he had the unfortunate accident of spilling a whole pint of beer right over my daughter’s head. Her whole head, hair and all her clothes were soaked. Of course I understand that accidents happen, and I actually felt really bad for him. At that point it was approximately half an hour since we arrived, and we still did not eat or drink anything, and obviously could not stay there with an 8 year old child covered in beer, so we said that we will be leaving. As we were leaving someone came to us - who I can only assume to be the manager, and told us that we don’t need to worry about the bill… Now, I’m sorry, but after a half an hour wait with no food, no order for the adults or drinks and a beer covered child, why in the world would worrying about the bill even be an option?? Not to mention that by that point the kids meals should have been ready and he could have at least asked if we wanted to get them to go or somehow better the situation. Can’t really comment on the food, because it’s been over a year since I’ve eaten there but this time the overall experience was very disappointing, that completely ruined our evening and left us hungry. I can say that it is not a place that we will be...
