Newmarket's most beloved lake!

Fairy Lake and Fairy Lake Park, on Water Street, serve residents and visitors as an urban oasis in the heart of historic downtown Newmarket. The lake itself was made by Newmarket's earliest settlers who built a mill in the early 1800s at the foot of Main Street. The 13.4 hectares of parkland, waterways and marshland are also known as Wesley Brooks Conservation Area and includes the dam at the Water Street bridge, which is used for the purpose of flood control.

While strolling through Fairy Lake Park, you will discover playgrounds, picnic areas and beautiful walking trails winding around the lake, over bridges and through well-maintained parkland. The park has a pavilion offering shelter and washrooms, chess/checker tables and a barbecue site.

Visit the park after shopping at the nearby Saturday morning Farmers' Market, which runs from May to October.

Come to one of the Town's special events at Fairy Lake Park and see shows featuring music, dance, demonstrations and other activities. There are plenty of things for kids at our special events too, such as train rides, face painting and playing on bouncy castles.

The park is within walking distance to many nearby restaurants and shops along historic Main Street, as well as Newmarket Riverwalk Commons where children love to play and splash in the outdoor water feature in the summer and skate in the winter.

Fairy Lake Park is open year-round and is free of charge. Parking is available:

Fairy Lake Park is a delightful oasis that exceeded my expectations during my recent visit. Nestled in the heart of Newmarket, this park is beautifully maintained and offers something for everyone. The highlight, of course, is the picturesque lake, which provides a serene backdrop for a peaceful walk or a leisurely afternoon.

The walking trails around the lake are well-paved and perfect for a stroll or a jog. I particularly enjoyed the variety of wildlife, including ducks and swans, that call the lake home. The park's lush greenery and mature trees offer plenty of shaded areas, making it a perfect spot for a picnic or simply to relax with a book.

There are also great amenities for families, including a well-equipped playground for kids and plenty of open spaces for games or gatherings. The bridges and fountains add to the park's charm, making it a lovely spot for photography or just enjoying nature.

Fairy Lake Park is truly a gem for both locals and visitors. Its peaceful ambiance, combined with the natural beauty and well-maintained facilities, makes it a perfect destination for a day out. I highly recommend a visit to anyone looking to unwind and enjoy...

Nice path around going around the lake. There is a nice big playground not a far walk from the parking. Washrooms are not too far of a walk too, and are decently maintained. There is a more secluded short trail if you don't like the sometimes busy main path. Bikes aren't allowed on this small gravel trail. Lots of wildlife; I've seen herons, beavers, muskrats, and plenty of turtles if you look for them. The most common ones are ducks and geese though. Great carp fishing too, the average size isn't amazing but you can go out and have a really productive day if you know where to find the fish. If you're planning to do some carp fishing, go on a warm sunny day around May - June. That's when I've caught some of the biggest ones (6 pounds). In general a great convenient park, especially if you live nearby.

The park is a staple of Newmarket, attracting human and animal visitors daily. Great place to go for a walk, see the geese, ducks and beavers. Also a great spot to go tobogganing in the winter and close to Main Street shops for a cup of warm coffee and some food. Great and relatively new playground for kids as well as a couple of loops for walkers, joggers and bikes. Hidden gem is the little boardwalk on the east side of the river as you walk south towards Mulock. It could be improved with some updates along the pathways and more attractive landscaping, but overall always a pleasure to visit.
