This place has a diner type feel to it, with the booth seats. It has a casual ambiance. The service was decent, not spectacular but not bad at all. We were promptly seated and handed menus as soon as we walked in. The menu has quite a lot of selection but there really isn't much for vegetarians (minus half a star). I ordered the blakened chicken sandwich since I don't eat seafood but was with someone who really wanted to come to this place for the fish and chips. All 3 of us being British were excited to find a chip shop with British style chips. Unfortunately, I did not like the chips very much (minus the other half star). They were fresh cut and I think would have tasted amazing but they were extremely dry and seemed like they had been in the fryer for too long. I hope the next time I come by this isn't the case. The chicken sandwich however, was absolutely amazing! The chicken was nicely spiced and the toppings were very complementary. The bun was so fresh and soft and just perfect! The only thing thing was it was slightly too salty for me. I thought the prices were fair as well. I'm just disappointed in the chips, something I miss about England. I guess I'll just have to hold out until I'm in England next! I highly recommend coming here (even if you are far from Newmarket), if not just for the fish. I did try a small piece and it seemed really well cooked and fresh.

My girlfriend knew that I love authentic fish and chips so she took me on my birthday to this fantastic spot where we had never been before. We tried both the haddock and halibut, and I was blown away with how good it was. The portion sizes were very generous with huge, tender and lightly battered pieces of fish paired with a mountain of freshly cut fries, served with some delicious in house tartar sauce. It’s rare to find a place that doesn’t skimp on the tartar, but they gave us plenty without hesitation. I do not eat a lot of salt in my food and they were able to compensate me by making my fish and fries without salt and it still tasted amazing. The service was top-notch. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and made sure we had everything we needed. We met the owner, who was very welcoming and he took the time to chat with us. The restaurant itself was spotless, from the dining area to the restrooms, and the overall atmosphere was warm and inviting. All in all, this was a fantastic experience, and we will definitely be coming back. There really needs to be more fish and chips places like this where the quality, service, and atmosphere all come together so perfectly! The pictures don’t do justice!

My husband and I went here for our anniversary which was yesterday. Tired from a long days work. I was so eager to celebrate, sit on a patio, have a drink, and enjoy a meal someone else prepared for a change, as well as support local businesses after the lockdown, reopening, and more lockdowns. We both ordered the cod and chips, the waitress was friendly, kind and very attentive. Our order was hot and fresh, the fish crispy on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside. The chunky fresh cut chips had a flavour beyond description, but this wasn’t our 1st time at this amazing place, we have been there many times before, and knew what to expect. We both noticed a slight difference in the portions from the last time we were there (way before Covid), but my husband being my husband decided, instead of taking the opportunity to celebrate 25 years of marriage, or to reconnect and rekindle the romance, or enjoy the simple pleasure of sitting on a patio and enjoying a beautiful meal with family or that special someone, when so many people will never have that opportunity again, chose to debate the size of a piece of fish, which is so good, I totally get wanting more, but Seriously ??, it’s our anniversary, and the latest reopening after a long closure, and even longer pandemic, and everybody is struggling to get back to some type of normal, especially restaurants. The waitress addressed his concerns, followed by the manager/owner??, my apologies for not getting the names of these amazing people who went way above and beyond to resolve the issue, and make sure he was satisfied !! If my husband, or anybody else reads this, I hope they get the message, to remember to be kind, patient, and understanding, during this unprecedented time, I think we’re all a bit rusty is that department, and compassion is in short supply. thank you from the bottom of my heart, for the most delicious fish and chips, for the lengths you went to ensure our happiness, it was deeply appreciated, and we will definitely be back again...

Avoid at all costs!

I’ve been coming here since 2015, this place used to be rated high because the previous owners knew what they were doing. The new owners since 2022, have since completely ruined the place. The food quality, portion size and taste have changed. Their fish used to be larger and have less batter. Their fries used to be cooked properly, now they are oily and almost raw-ish.

The restaurant is run by a family and the daughter of the owner works in the front of the restaurant. She’s very rude and has a lot of attitude.

The mom is nice, however, naive and defensive. I saw her yesterday on Main Street, with a server that works there and what I presume was her husband, because they had a gas leak and had to close their restaurant. I tried to explain how the food isn’t as good anymore, provided examples, constructive feedback but her and her husband just became defensive and acted like she had no idea what I was saying. I also told her that her daughter is rude and I’ve phoned in once to explain this to them, the daughter became aggressive with me and hung up.

I’ve tried this place 5-6 times since the new owners have come in, each time being a bigger disappointment. I really did not want to make this review but their lack of care, understanding and consideration as restaurant business owners, made me think it’s the only way to make a change. I wouldn’t go here, there are much better places to eat.

Next time before buying a restaurant maybe they can consider whether it’s even something they understand. They seem not to know anything about the culinary business. When a customer is telling you something because they care what this place uses to be, instead of gaslighting, maybe try to understand and see how you could figure out if the comment is valid and how you could change the experience of future patrons.

I really think, soon this place will be shutting doors if they...

Would I Return? - ✔ YES Would I Recommend? - ✔ YES

A modern take on a Fish & Chips joint but with proper food value....and by that I mean REAL proper value.👇 These days a fish supper can cost you big💲, and leave you wanting...(I've often had this experience) but I'm happy to report that this joint serves honest to goodness sizeable portions and that's perhaps what I love the most. I never leave hungry and I'm also never able to finish my meal (🤔though it might be possible if I prepare myself and not eat for 3 days).

🔹️The Fish ✔Naturally and Sustainably Sourced. They offer up the typical Haddock and Halibut options as well as Cod (one of my favs.) Orange Roughy and Pollock. ✔Crispy Battered, Flaky to the gentlest of touches and Moist. ✔The chips are Mountainous pieces of starchy goodness. -Shrimp and Calamari options as well as Chicken and Chips also served.

🔹️Other Items: Other fare includes Guinness Stew, Toad in the Hole (not made from real toads🐸) Shepherds Pie, Burgers, Sandwiches, Soups and Salads.

🔸️Notable: -Yorkshire Pudding Made fresh daily with farm-fresh eggs and whole milk served with gravy. (Available after 5pm) -Sticky Toffee Pudding: It's a sizeable portion served with icecream.

-Gravy and Sauces ✔All made in house. Beef gravy made from scratch and other sauces like the Sriracha Mayo, Curry Mayo are great if you're feeling experimental.

👉Bottom Line Good food, Good Service, Great Value. Oh...and extra Tip* Wear loose clothing! Your belly is bound to expand!
