We took my father and our family to the Maid's cottage for the first time for Easter Monday Brunch. The atmosphere was similar to an old Mom and Pop diner. Some reviews I read, people don't like the vinyl tablecloth, however in my opinion it added to the nostalgia feel. The staff was super friendly, had a sense of humour and accommodating~ our waitress brought extra plates because my girls were going to split their order. We were seated and served in no time. The food was excellent. Ever time I go out anywhere for breakfast/brunch~ either in or outside the country, I always order the eggs benedict. I can honestly it is one of the best I ever tasted. The eggs were done to perfection, and so was the sauce. Everyone else in our party enjoyed their food. The price was very reasonable for the amount of food you get compared to other places, (I ended up paying around $60 for 3 adults and 2 teens) which led me to buying a box of butter tarts because of money I had left over! I highly recommend the Maid's cottage for breakfast/brunch. You won't be...
Read moreWe were told about this place by friends who insisted this was a must try bakery for butter tarts. When we arrived we received a warm greeting. On the menu of Butter Tarts were true butter tarts, tarts with raisins, tarts with a slight heat (spicy), tarts with pumpkin spice and tarts with coconuts. All these varieties of butter tarts led us to choose 2 of each. The price per tart was a little high but we wanted to try more than 1 item. My opinion was the spicy was too runny and not spicy at all, the pumpkin was nice, as was the coconut but not a big fan of either. The Real Butter Tarts (plain) had a consistency that had a stable filling which did not run and was delicious. I will say the shell was a bit thick and filling to shell ratio was a little light on the filling. At over $3 per tart I would expect just a little more filling. Overall the experience was worth the trip. I recommend sticking to the real butter tart selection, but for the adventurous...
Read moreI love going to the Maids Cottage for brunch or breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday morning. The menu has great choices in many different cuisines, from Sheppard pie, freshly made bread and soups etc. I tried the Italian wedding soup and it's amazing! I don't like that kind of soup, and tasted it and was delightfully surprised how good it tasted. The sheppards pie is absolutely mouthwatering good, seasoned to perfection.
Make sure you try the tarts! Don't forget because you will be missing out of the best tarts in tart history, no joke. Lol, only place I have tarts since discovering The Maids Cottage. It will take you on a journey which will leave your pallet in an blissful wonderland of a sweet and smooth ride to deliciousness.
