Finally got to Cafe Andes and oh mylanta, so good! We tried 3 flavours of the empanadas: flank steak, chicken, and Colombian (potato and beef). They were all delicious but the flank was the winner for us. Crisp just slightly sweet corn crust stuffed just right. And that magic green sauce...not entirely sure what it's called, but just the perfect balance of bright and fresh without being too spicy. Next up was the Colombian Style Stuffed Potatoes (Papas Rellenas Colombianas). Almost what I'd imagine a portable ball of Columbian shepherd's pie. The pototo was rich and creamy with lovely seasoned ground beef, rice and egg in the center. And last but not least Pabellon Arepa -Corn flour Arepa Stuffed with Shredded Flank Steak, Black Beans, Fried Plantain, and Mozarella Cheese. That sweet plantain in there. Mmmmmmm. It was definitely 2 meals in one. Can't wait to go back and try...
Read moreDropped by Cafe Andes for a cappuccino in the early afternoon. The food looked very tempting, it was lunch time, so I ended up getting Arepas, Empanadas, Tequenos and a cassava pastry. The coffee was very good - good flavors, good mix of espresso vs. milk. The food was incredibly delicious and filling. The arepas were the star of the show and alone would have been enough to feed 2 people (we got two: Flank Steak+Cheese, and Chicken+Avocado+Cheese - about 10 fillings to select from are available). The Empanadas (one beef, one chicken), Tequenos (cheese-stuffed pastry log) and cassava pastry stuffed with beef were also very tasty, great flavors, tasted fresh and homemade and very filling. The arepas appear to be made fresh from scratch for each individual order. We are so lucky to have places like this in our neighbourhood. Can't wait to go back and try their house...
Read moreIf you want to go to a restaurant just for the food and not for the experience this is your place. I want to make clear that the food taste is really good (they keep the Latin flavours super authentic) The prices and the customer service not so much. I’ve been there for a couple of times and the way I have been treated or talked made me order their food through Uber Eats that way I didn’t have to face them and/or I was sure how much I was going to pay. We all understand that inflation is a big struggle but the prices constantly change without notice. What I have pay for one thing lets say $1 dollar and the next week is $3 and the following week is $2.50 and so on. That on top of the “adds on” you have to pay for simple things just like a sauce. But yeah, I mean at least the...
