My family visited this restaurant for a dim sum lunch on a Friday. We ordered dim sum from paper menus. The food arrived at our table after about 20 minutes. The pan fried pork dumplings were good and meaty with very little filler material. The egg rolls were crispy and full of meat, but a tad small. Other Chinese restaurants use a lot of shredded cabbage as cheap filler material in their egg rolls. But not Golden Dragon Palace. The mini milk egg tarts were served very hot with a tender, buttery crust. Because it was served so hot, it tasted better than egg tarts at other Chinese restaurants. The sesame balls were good too. But I cannot recommend all of the items that we ordered. The pork shao mai is noticeably too small, and it was utterly tasteless. And the har gao tasted average at best.
We came for the dim sum experience. Dim sum is supposed to be served at lunchtime on carts that are rolled by restaurant employees that approach customers' tables. The customer will then identify the dish that he/she wants, and the cart employee will place the dish on the customer's table. It's supposed to be a quick experience so that the customer can go back to work (or just go about their day). That is why dim sum is only served at lunchtime. But at Golden Dragon Palace, dim sum is ordered off a menu and is cooked when ordered. If a restaurant is going to have dim sum cooked when ordered, then there's absolutely no reason to not have dim sum during dinnertime.
Customer service at this restaurant was a good experience. The male server was friendly and attentive. But the female employee, although friendly, was not as helpful. For example, when my family entered the restaurant, we waited to be seated, per the sign just inside the front door. When the female employee noticed us from the very back of the restaurant, she mumbled something and pointed to a random area of...
Read moreOrdered a combo tonight, the man who took my order was friendly and welcoming. The woman working the front with him was the opposite. As a customer, its not nice when you are talking about coming back to try their egg foo young, only to have the lady cut you off mid sentence and dismiss you. It's like... im showing interest in coming back and you show me that what I'm saying doesn't matter to you. Eitherway, let's talk about the food. It's ok, didn't blow me away. Spring roll instead of an eggroll is odd... it was good though until the last bite where all thr untrained fryer oil was pooled up. Tell your cooks they need to hang cooked items from a fryer. Fried rice was decent, good with the other items. Kung pao chicken... was not done correctly and was nothing close to real kung pao chicken. Steps were skipped, the chicken wasn't cooked first and then removed, you can tell this because their was no texture on the chicken, it wa sall just corn starch syrup and no care given, all just thrown in at once... also no peanuts, no pieces of dried chillies and not even any scallions. The beef and broccoli was pretty good. All in all.. decent food, nothing bad about it but you can tell when a kitchen cares and puts love into their food, and when a kitchen is just pumping out food at subpar quality just because someone orders a combo. Either way, the less than friendly lady with bad vibes turned me off the food even before I took a bite. I'd give this place a 2.5 stars out of 5. It has...
Read moreVery Disappointed — Father’s Day Ruined
We’ve been regular customers at Golden Dragon for a long time, usually dining here once a month as a treat. Unfortunately, our most recent visit on Father’s Day was deeply disappointing and upsetting. In today’s economy, going out to eat isn’t easy for many families, and we had to cut corners to be able to take my dad — who is recovering from a stroke — out for a nice meal.
Everything was going fine until it came time to pay the bill. After I tipped what I could afford, the server actually questioned me about the amount, asking why I tipped so little — right in front of my entire family. As a university student trying to make ends meet, that moment was not only humiliating but completely ruined the atmosphere for all of us.
We came to celebrate and make my dad feel special, but instead we left feeling embarrassed and disrespected. That kind of attitude from staff is unacceptable, especially toward paying customers who are doing their best. Sadly, this experience has made us seriously reconsider ever returning to a place we...
