I tried Chop and Chew for the first time last week. They're primarily small plates and have four beer taps of local breweries. The also have the 70oz beer tiers for your table, simmering I haven't seen in years and I have always liked them.
For food, we got the charcuterie plate and the mushroom wings. The plate was pretty good, while the bread to meet and cheese ratio could be considered low to some people, but personally, I only care about the meat and cheese so it was good for me. The mushrooms were delicious and had a nice marinara sauce with them.
For mains, I got the burger. For the price, I had some lofty expectations. The patty was small so the bun to patty ratio was too high. It was tasty, while I didn't love the roll. I'm not saying it was bad, I just had massive expectations.
My dinner mates got the sausages and potato mix. The sausages were good. Nice sausages, good selection. The dish is well done.
The ambiance is pretty good and the team is trying hard to make a good experience. At times, a little too hard, gents. I know the big chains love to ask, "how are the first few bites?" but that makes me want to leave. My suggestion: be honest. You're just starting out and you want to know how you're doing, I get it. I WANT to help you, but please don't pander for kudos. Instead, tell us your keen and open to feedback and make yourself available in the wings. If you make the connecting that your looking for honest feedback right away, I would psyched to help you.
You have a good thing going, just mind the music volume and have your customers be a part of your journey target than prying feedback from people. Set the stage for the exchange of ideas and treat your guests like guests.
I will certainly be back, you're going well, just a little polish needed. You're new, your going...
Read moreI found Chop and Chew via the "restaurant" tab on Google Maps while looking for a new place to eat along Lonsdale Avenue. It had garnered consistently high reviews. I came here for dinner, and parking wasn't too difficult to find around 7-8pm on a Saturday. My server was Shayan, who is also the co-owner of the restaurant. He was extremely pleasant and easygoing. The menu consisted primarily of pub-style/comfort food; I had a side serving of poutine, and their Chop and Chew Platter, which consisted of a large serving of homemade coleslaw, two decently-sized sausages, and a creamy mound of mashed potatoes. I quite thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The meat wasn't overcooked, and the accompaniment weren't overly seasoned. Also, the portion sizes weren't excessive, and I felt that the price-portion ratio to be quite reasonable. While I didn't have dessert, I had the opportunity to chat a little with Shayan. He was very open about his experiences in opening the restaurant, and was overall quite an amicable fellow. If I had a minor gripe, it would be that the food might take a while to arrive if the place was busy as it is a smaller restaurant. Overall, I would recommend trying out this place if one were looking for a new...
Read moreI finally checked out Chop & Chew in North Van after my buddy from Black Kettle (another fav btw) introduced me to the owner, Shayan—super friendly guy, clearly obsessed (in the best way) with serving up great food and good vibes. He personally invited me to swing by, and wow, am I glad I did.
Let’s start with the Sausage Style Burger—this thing was a beast. Juicy, smoky, stacked high with all the fixings, and those fries? Crispy, golden, addictive. Then came the Chop & Chew Platter with brat and beef sausages. If you’ve ever wondered what happiness tastes like, it’s that combo of grilled perfection, creamy mash, crunchy slaw, and a dollop of bold mustard magic.
Come hungry. The vibe is casual but cool—like your neighbourhood hangout if your neighbourhood hangout actually had amazing food.
I’ll definitely be sending my home buyer clients this way when they’re checking out Lonsdale or anywhere in North Van. Great eats, a passionate owner, and the kind of place that instantly feels like a local favourite. Shayan, you’re doing something...
