Awful service. Started out okay, the server introduced herself when we sat down and seemed friendly. But then forgot about us for 30 mins after ordering chips and salsa and a drink. I had to flag her down to ask for more food/drinks, despite seeing her walk past us multiple times and lingering around the bar/kitchen. Furthermore, we were seated AT THE BAR, with the bartender in front of us the entire time, who never said a single word to us.

When food finally arrived, I tipped my beer over reaching for the plate, which spilled on the counter. Granted, it was my fault knocking the beer over, and it was only maybe a quarter of a pint, but at every other restaurant I've ever been to they'd offer to refill it (or at least a small top up given it was only a small amount of beer spilled). Instead, the bartender asked the MANAGER, who was standing behind me when it happened, to grab a napkin to help wipe it up. Neither the bartender nor the MANAGER asked if I wanted a small top up in light of the spill. The manager then had the audacity to grab my empty glass 5 minutes later and ask if I wanted to buy another drink (and this was the only instance which anyone asked if we needed anything). Unbelievable.

The only redeeming qualities were the atmosphere (lighting, decor, music, etc), and the prices. While prices were fair, the quality of food was very sub par. Chips were just bland store bought chips, which is fine to me as long as the salsa is good, but the salsa was worse than store bought...super runny with very little flavor. The chicken burrito was okay, better than Chipotle but not by much, maybe a 6.5/10. I'm fine with this quality though for the pricing...they only charge $13.50 for the crappy burrito, which seems fair for restaurant pricing. I figured the quality would be around Chipotle level quality going into it, given the pricing. Just didn't expect service to...

Extremely bland, tasteless, and low quality food. The jerk jackfruit burritos were completely tasteless and cold, and was devoid of any and all seasoning, including salt. The mango salsa tasted cold, sour and stale. Not sure what aspect of the burrito was supposed to be “jerk”.

The kung pao tofu tacos was even more disgusting - the tofu tacos were white as white can be, with just plain tofu (not cooked, fried or seasoned or anything) topped with a light pink mayonnaise that just tasted like mayonnaise. The tofu literally looked it was taken straight out of the packet, chopped into chunks and put straight into the taco. Again no idea what aspect of these tacos was supposed to be “kung pao”. It was just uncooked unseasoned white tofu with mayonnaise? Absolutely disgusting.

Looks like they just gave it ethnic names to sound exciting because “bland uncooked tofu with zero salt and lots of stale mayonnaise” doesn’t roll off the tongue on the menu in the same way I guess.

I understand this place is called “Gringo” so I wasn’t remotely expecting authentic Mexican or authentic kung pao or jerk, but for god sakes at least cook and season your food with something! Anything! Salt at least!!! 🤮

Honestly, Gringo has to be the top 3 worst meals I’ve ever had in my life. I’m just glad I didn’t leave with food poisoning. First and last time here. 🤮 what a garbage can of an...

I visited gringos last night, and unfortunately, it was not the experience I expected. The ambience seemed promising at first—it looked like a nice taco place, but once we were seated, it became clear that the atmosphere was much lower energy than anticipated. The vibe just didn’t match the "nice taco place" feel I was hoping for.

I ordered tacos, and they were honestly below average. The flavors were bland, and the tortillas weren’t as fresh as I expected. My girlfriend tried their margarita, and it was nothing special—just average, really.

The biggest issue, though, was the way they handled the drinks. They don’t tell you what brand of alcohol is being used, and all the bottles were covered. It made us feel really uncomfortable, not knowing what kind of alcohol was going into the drink. It came off as shady and unprofessional, and it definitely ruined the experience for us.

Overall, I won't be returning. The food wasn’t great, the drinks were mediocre, and the lack of transparency around the alcohol was a huge red flag. There are much better places in town to get tacos and drinks without...

Fun spot on Lonsdale where the Menchie’s used to be. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Took our order, thoroughly checked for allergies we had, gave good recommendations, and were not pushy on drinks (we were with a non drinking group). Food was good. The burritos and tacos were fine - tightly wrapped burritos and well grilled/ toasted. Really good and not overly messy. We have been here a couple of times, so I’d personally rate the meat Austin/ Angus > Encino/ Chicken > Wilbur/ Pork. The green sauce is yummy, the red sauce is very spicy. 🌶️. Food wise, they don’t serve and complementary chips or anything. So, for the experience it feels like you are at a dine in restaurant, but the food portions are very basic. Food Presentation and quality are a step above Chipotle, but Chipotle has them on selection of condiments and volume. 80s retro vibes and play list was super fun. I could see this place being a fun late night eat place with a small group.

Could not recommend this place enough! Came here for my Birthday in the middle of a very busy exam season and have no regrets. The food was delicious, and very fairly priced. We were stuffed by the end of our meal. We tried the tacos, burrito, nachos, chips and queso, and margaritas. The pineapple salsa was also really tasty! The staff and service were outstanding. We were greeted by I'm assuming the owner(?) Super great guy. Extremely friendly and energetic. Having previously worked as a server, it’s refreshing to see a place where the staff doesn’t essentially follow the same corporate script and dull greetings. The energy in this place is lovely. 10/10 food, drinks, prices, service and decor. This is a small restaurant, and despite just opening a few days ago, very busy. You may have to wait to be seated. The wait is totally worth it. Check it out!

Lower Lonsdale is fortunate to have so many great restaurants and such variety but hard to find great food at affordable prices. Gringos has super friendly staff, the beverage price is great, especially during happy hour, and the tacos are super delicious for a snack or lighter supper. Food is "healthier" than the fast food options and the cost is still low enough to be able to go out for an enjoyable meal. New to Gringos is their loyalty plan with generous start up bonus, double points on Mon. and Tues. and best of all is no card needed as it stores under your phone number. Highly recommended.
