I came here with my family of 4 (2 adults, one 3 year old and one 1 year old) with two other families (4 adults, two 3 year olds, one 1 year old, one baby). Because of our group size we had to split our orders into two which was understandable. We all sat at one big table but were split down the middle for ease of ordering. However, we felt that the servers were not fully trained well. They explained that each person can only order 3 pieces per order with a maximum of 3 orders (total 9 pieces of sashimi per person). We went with the understanding that the children can also order sashimi. Half the table order sashimi for the three adults and 2 children and received full order of sashimi. The other half of the table ordered half of the allotted sashimi for first round.
When we realized one of the children's age was stated incorrectly to the servers (not baby, should be one year old), we had told the servers to correct the age so we can pay for the food correctly (from free to $2.50). We had then proceeded to order more sashimi.
The server then returned to say we cannot order sashimi for the child as "one year old child does not eat sashimi". So we said that is fine then.
The other half of the table proceeded to order the remaining sashimi amount. The server returned and said they cannot serve the sashimi to three year olds either.
We were not explained this rule at the beginning of the meal. We felt the servers were hesitant to answer our questions and did not fully understand the menu as we had questions about other items on the menu as well.
We told them that the other half of the table received sashimi for their three year olds so why can we not receive it for the other half of the table. They said they cannot serve it because of the rule. We stated that if that was true, why would they allow it then for half of the table? We felt it was unfair for them to change the allowance in the middle of the meal. They then said that they will need to talk to the manager about the sashimi order. Ultimately the manager told the server to tell us that they cannot allow sashimi orders for three year old children.
The manager did not even come out to resolve this conflict themselves. The server stated that she will pay for the extra sashimi for us from her own pocket in order to resolve this issue.
Ultimately, we had a terrible experience from forgotten orders, the very restricted limits on so many items, the lack of confidence and knowledge of the menu from the servers, the changing rules of sashimi limits, the constant reminders of utensil/plate/wasabi replacements.
We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Coming from out of town and looking for a good sushi restaurant for our three families, we were utterly disappointed. For such a large amount you are paying for all you can eat, it is not truly an all you can eat.
We hope the management of this restaurant can better train their staff to understand their menu and...
Read moreI celebrated my friend's baby daughter's birthday here a few days ago on Saturday. This place is in North Vancouver, quite a drive from Vancouver downtown. You have to find parking around the area, but there are 2-hour free parking spots up the street. This restaurant offers all-you-can-eat, and we thought it would be fun to sample multiple types of dishes. It was my first all-you-can-eat experience since I moved to Canada.
We made a reservation by phone on the same day. From the initial contact, the staff seemed unfriendly to me, but since it wasn't my party, I let it go. The food reviews looked good, so I trusted my fellow Google reviewers.
Upon arrival, the place looked tiny, crowded, and smelly. The floors and overall atmosphere were not clean. When we said we wanted to do all-you-can-eat, the server's attitude became rigid, and she started listing all these rules and regulations, like having to finish everything and the number of pieces allowed. It felt weird. Their system for ordering all-you-can-eat is pen and paper, with rules that are not cited properly (or explained well) which is confusing, especially for a big table. The server had to help us with it. On the positive side, the food started arriving immediately after ordering. The food itself was good, tasted fresh(the sashimi) and I had no issues afterward. I was confused with the spicy sauces on some of it. it wasn't the "regular" type of spice. some rolls lookd a bit messy, but that is ok with me. If you want icecream you have to add $1 for vanilla and $ 9 for mango ( that is a bit much for a very small scoop of icecream btw). The chicken karaage was surprisingly made into a meatball and my friends told me it tasted inconsistent, sometimes like chicken and sometimes like pork, which was a problem for us, as we do not eat pork. So I still wonder what it was 😅 ).
My problem was the attitude and the atmosphere of this place. They never cleared the table of plates, never brought extra napkins or water, though they did refill the tea. For an 18% gratuity imposed on tables of over six (the sixth person in our case was a 2-year-old), I expected at least some table cleaning. No smiles, and the staff, including the chefs, kept checking our table to see if we had finished everything. Next time you check on a table, please clean it too. Also, if you don't want to offer all-you-can-eat, don't offer it, but if you do, do it wholeheartedly.
We left and said thank you and saluted the kitchen staff, who didn't even bother to reply. I guess they really didn't want us there. I know we had a toddler with us, but we managed her well, she was alwayssupervised and not allowed to scream etc. If they were disturbed by that, they should just say kids under a certain age are not allowed.
Needless to say, even though the food was good, I go out for the experience, and this one...

Why do we go to restaurants? mainly because we are already hungry and we want to EAT! okay, great. no problem till here. Now imagine the menu is brought to you. You are in a sushi place, so some ingredients are unfamiliar or you just have a unique taste and you need to make sure the tuna or salmon is the type you always order, right? Great. Now imagine you try to add instructions to the order just because you always do at any other sushi place. Other places always easily provide that adjustment for us. Here? well, you gotta spend good amount of 6-8 minutes to explain "raw salmon" no "smoked salmon', after lots of back and forth to the kitchen the waitress, came back to ask again "regular salmon right? that's extra 5$"! another 4 minutes spent to solve this unsolvable issue, until she said oh "my english is not good" :) well, too bad cause you are working in a food industry and imagine someone come with a certain allergy. Her lack of English skill can miss that and that can cause a disaster... Anyhow, the atmosphere also made us disgusted. They were carrying buckles of raw and dead fish behind us, and these things do stink! Next thing she brought our "food" after a looongg wait, we realized my order was wrong, and then at this point she obviously got angry, I think due her to lack of English skill, she was getting frustrated and decided its best to project that to us. The end result, we left without eating there, while being hungry and frustrated, and guess what "no one apologized". She started making hand gestures to the chef and spoke in their own language and disrespected us to the best of her ability which made us really feel bad. Despite the fact that she didn't know how to be a professional server; fluent in English, she was very skillful in ruining our day( well partially), afterwards, we managed to go to a much nicer place and spent our money there while laughing at her hand gestures and their smelly restaurant).
For gods sake, you are living in an English speaking country! that's the only unified language we all know, just learn this instead of expecting others to put up with your illiteracy, or dont work in such an environment, I cannot learn japanese or mandarin to go order a sushi, but the server can learn English, I mean, I guess! Anyhow, no one apologized and no manager showed up, waitress was shaking angrily. What a professional management and environment, eh?! Please dont go there, you'd be disappointed cause they don't take responsibility...
