Have been a loyal customer of Two Rivers Meats for years. We get our Thanksgiving and Christmas turkeys there. Great product and service normally. Placed an order over the phone for a turkey and a uncured, skin off, bone in ham. The person that took my order put me on hold numerous times to verify my specific request with a butcher. We even discussed that i was going to be brining it myself. Get to pick everything up on Sunday. So i thought Get a follow up call on Friday to double confirm my order. Here I thought wow! Very thorough! And looking forward to getting the uncured, skin off, bone in ham to process and cook up for Boxing day! Fast forward to Sunday. Go in and load up, grab the turkey, sausages, bacon, pickles, mustard and see the ham is in a brown bag with my name on it Didnt occur to me to look in the bag as Two River Meats has been spot on, and were so thorough along the way. I get home and start putting the groceries away. See the receipt for the ham and see it says easy slice ham, i pull the meat out and it looks like a cured ham, no bone? Just heat and serve. Not at all what I wanted or ordered. I call and chat with someone and explain the situation. They are like sure come back and we will get you sorted. So pack up and head back across the bridge to North Van to Two River Meats. I arrive and explain the situation to one of the staff. Get told oh we haven't had raw hams forever and last time we had them we got stuck with them. Oddly making me feel that I was to blame for the uncured hams that didnt sell from years before. Was no real apology or offer of a remedy for the miscommunication that happened on their part. He was more interested in pointing out that yes the cured ham that i had would have had a bone in it and scrutinized the order sheet that i had with my receipt pointing out that no where does it say uncured? Or raw. Again making it feel like it was my fault?!? Oddly the person that I originally talked to that double checked with the butcher is the one that made the mistake and not me. Begrudgingly and at this point just wanting to wrap up my Christmas / Boxing Day grocery shop decided to keep the cured ham. Pivoting with the meal prep and Boxing Day dinner plans. As where am I going to find a uncured bone in ham today?!? Anyways on the way home decided to stop at Safeway to grab some other stuff. Chatted to the butcher there and he had an 11 lb, bone in pork shoulder roast that would do the trick. He even cut it down for me to 8lbs. So dinner is still on Toss the Two Rivers Meats ham into the freezer for a later day. My advise for Two Rivers is to have knowledgeable staff answering the phone, encourage them to ask questions. Or even put the lead butcher on. Listen to the customer and try not to blame them for your teams fault. End of rant Great product but disappointed in the...
Read moreWalking into Two Rivers feels like stumbling onto a backstage pass at a rock show. There’s a raw honesty in the subway-tiled butcher shop and wood-trimmed grill station, where every cut of meat is on display like prized vinyl. The staff moves with quiet confidence—no pretense, just people who know exactly what they’re doing and why it matters.
I ordered a Cheeseburger and Thick-Cut Fries
First bite: the cheeseburger hits like a punch of nostalgia. The patty is juicy, beefy, and seasoned just enough to let the dry-age speak for itself. Melted cheddar blankets it in gooey surrender. The thick-cut fries arrive smoking and salted to perfection.
The Two Rivers Deck: People-Watching Paradise
There’s a grind at the bottle return station just on the other side of the street- From the deck you get a front-row seat to this quiet ritual, a reminder that small economies keep communities ticking. It’s oddly poetic: you’re here for good meat and fries, but you stay for the human theater of the bottle recycling.
The Butcher Shop Finds
Before you leave, you can’t resist stocking up. Today’s haul included: Pasture-raised chicken thighs with skin that crisps like bacon Coarsely ground beef, speckled with fat and promise
Each package feels like a ticket to another meal—this time, at your own table.
My old review from 5 years: It looks and is a butcher shop but is also North Vancouver treasure for foodies. This a great restuarant that is not vegetarian friendly (they do have A salad) and beer. Happy hour is between 3 and 5.. The menu changes regularly and is always very good. The area is not picturesque but you are not paying for the location...... the decor is clean modern and the prices...
Read moreDon't get me wrong, the burgers and slaw were great. The food is not the problem with this place as the other reviews demonstrate. My rating is based on our experience, which showed the abysmal attitudes of the staff and a very poor level of service.
We had heard this place had some of the best burgers in the region and visited with our friends (party of 4). We lined up and ordered first, then our friends. After the expected wait, our friends got their burger and appy. We waited expecting ours to follow, however a large table of 8 that ordered well after we had, got their order first. I asked a female server about our order and she ignored me. When my boyfriend asked, a different male bearded server with glasses replied and said, "Yep it's coming- Ramen and chicken". The table next to us spoke up and said "No that's us" and I said "no, we both ordered burgers like my friend here who was behind us in line". The server stared a second like we were from a zoo. He then came back a few minutes later with the ramen and whatever for the other table.
We waited 10 more minutes for our order. No apologies or explanation given when it came. I was pretty upset by how unnecessarily surly everyone was. So I took my receipt to the front and asked for my tip back.
I do have to mention the one older woman clearing and serving who was great, but everyone else staff wise was disinterested and cold. I know it's busy, I've worked in the service industry too, but that's no excuse for rudeness. If our order was forgotten admit it and apologize. No eye rolling or snark.
At any rate, next time I want to drop more than $50 on lunch I will be taking my...
