As a resident in Bronte for 10 years, we are enjoying our dinner in all restaurants in Bronte and love all of them, especially the ones part of Catch. We also have been dining in Marine Tavern (formerly the Cove). However this place is obviously taking advantage of its location and potential customers. We have been dining in this place several times and each time we were dealing with small disrespectful behaviours from the owner. We tried to disregard this thinking that they were busy and we wanted to keep good relations with a restaurant in our neighborhood however the last experience we had is the enough point for our family with our 7 year old son. Since this is summer and the owner believes that the customers are guaranteed, he behaved us extremely rude that we never have seen before. We booked our table on 'open table' and put a note that we would like to sit in patio. When we stepoed in, they showed us a table inside although there were tables empty in patio that he said they were reserved before. But we also reserved and stated to sit in patio. We still accepted this and sat somewhere. But the tables were still empty when we were leaving. So we raised to the owner that this was not fare. And the guy was extremely rude and even was not ashamed to tell us to leave and not to come again in front of our little son 7 year old. This is really beyond being rude and he was only trusting that his place would be full based on his location. My son was very traumatized because of his behaviour to tell us to leave. There are many restaurants in Bronte those are part of Catch company and make you feel like you are home as they keep warm local culture. But this guy really needs a lesson to be learnt as he is extremely rude. I would suggest anyone to sit in this restaurant to think twice as this place is using guaranteed profit they have. As Bronte residents or just visitors let's give this guy a lesson and teach him to behave people right. Hope he will be learning to be humble and local.
Response to Owner: We have dined here many times and never had any issues with the staff. In fact, we've always felt welcomed—they’ve often chatted with us and seem to like both us and our son. However, we have noticed a high turnover rate, with the staff changing frequently. Also, on your Google Maps page, the only reservation option listed is through the OpenTable app. Deflecting the truth and making false accusations will not help. Please refrain from disturbing my family with misinformation or unfounded claims. I hope you can come to understand what constructive feedback truly is and start learning from past mistakes. That will go a long way in improving communication with your customers. Wishing...
Read moreWarning: Do NOT consult their website menu - it lies! We ate (I won't say "dined") at Marine Tavern last night. We wanted to try this relatively new (to us) place and looked forward to a long-awaited dinner out. Perusing their website menu, we were delighted to find our nostalgic British favourites: Scotch egg, butties, pie and mash, British beef stew, and many more offerings. There was also a sizeable list of beers, cocktails, and a creative selection of non-alcoholics. We picked what we planned to order and anticipated a lovely meal out. Imagine our disappointment and confusion when on arriving we were handed a flimsy, plastic-wrapped two-page printout "menu" showing only a fraction of the offerings on their website menu, with almost none of the touted British specialties. We questioned why the vast menu difference and were told, Oh, this is our "summer menu." They had changed it about 2 weeks prior, but left the original online in its longer, appetizing, sadly misleading version. Unfortunately, apart from the cheerful staff and a young lady server who was pleasant, helpful and attentive, our first visit to Marine Tavern was a disaster and will be our last. An unexpectedly sparse menu, mediocre food (except for only the pull-apart garlic bread and chips), and a Margarita in which was floating a dried, hardened, shrunken old piece of lime which, when we asked what the heck this piece of garbage was doing in a drink, were told it was added deliberately ..."to make it look nice." We...
Read moreAfter visiting last weekend for a couple of bevvies, and a look at the new presentation, we decided to go "last minute" for Sunday dinner on Feb 18th.
Started with a delicious bowl of clam chowder. It was cold outside and a welcomed warmer upper. The base was thick, creamy, (not too rich), and flavourful - seasoned perfectly. Including a generous amount of chunky potatoes and clams, this soup of the day hit the spot! I had the fish and chips - always my go-to for a first time visit to nosh, and it exceeded my expectations! The fish is thick and lightly battered. The accompanying fries, were hot and crisp, and the cole slaw very tasty. A side of their tarter sauce finishes this dish off perfectly. My hubby enjoyed the Roast Beef special. Bring your appetite, folks! This plate offered a huge perfect Yorkie, roasted root veggies, roasted potatoes and Swede. (Now you have to go to find out what Swede is!). The beef was generously piled on the side, cooked perfectly and the dish had a wonderful Bordeaux gravy over top. I wouldn't have been able to finish this plate, but he did (with no room for desert)! And we would have enjoyed a serving of Sticky Toffee Pudding if we could have fit it in. They have plans to rehab the former Cove patio to be 4 seasons so that they can maximize the space and views of the lake and Bronte Inner Harbour for this spring. We will definitely go back and can't wait to enjoy that new patio!
It's now...
