The food is good, however higher attention to the guests and a more timely service is necessary. Our party of three sat down at our table at 6:15pm for a dinner of celebration. After over an hour of being seated we had only been served a drink and our appetizer with no sign of the main course being served soon (and it wasn’t). That particular evening it was not busy, as it is a small place and had many empty tables. Although we had not planned to rush our evening by any means and we were looking forward to a good meal and conversation we were all starving by the time the food arrived and we did not find the chairs comfortable enough for their patrons to be forced into a 2 hour meal experience. There was also a thorough lack of communication between servers. This was most notably recognized by a server asking us if we wanted another drink and our asking her for suggestions. She claimed she would talk to the other server as drinks were not her specialty. After approx. 15-20 min our server came back to ask if we wanted another drink with no indication that we had been asked previously and that she was to be asked for suggestions whatsoever. Apparently the message had been lost within the 10ft walk from our table to the bar area. Let me reiterate that this was not a busy evening by any means in that restaurant. By the time we were served our dinner we were regretting choosing Blackfriars entirely. Another thing to note is that while the artwork on the walls is very artistically beautiful it could also be seen as quite gruesome and depressing for a lovely dinner/night out. The costly bill at the end was just a slap in the face for such poor service. While I would never sit there again, I would say the food was good enough to order as a takeout meal so that you can seat yourself more comfortably, control when the food is ready and place yourself in a better...
Read moreHorrible experience with this catering and restaurant service. Emanuela who is the owner is very rude. She least understands the requirements of the clients. After confirming that Blackfriars will be doing the catering for my event, she did not have any follow-ups or conversation after giving the confirmation. Asked to pay $500 deposit first to continue any conversation, which we paid the minute she asked for it. When asked about tasting of food, she said there is no tasting but we can come to the restaurant and have food with cost. For 3 people we paid $270 for just some snacks and a meal. Also left a big tip to the server there who was also very rude. After almost spending $800 on this scam catering, Emanuela decided to not do the catering. Ignored several calls we made. This is horrifying experience and I would strongly recommend to not consider this bistro for any events and even visiting their restaurant. Their food is mediocre. These people are scam and please be aware of them. It is better to not host the event than to have them serve in one. Horrible, arrogant, greedy for money and the worst is no communication skills or commitment. Very surprising that they are surviving in the market with...
Read moreMy wife and I dined at Blackfriars's Friday night, as we had not been in quite a few years and we wanted to try the Londonlicious Menu. While the cocktails and food were very good and the service attentive, the whole place really needs to be upgraded and updated, given the creative talent behind Blackfriar's Bistro.
In the intervening years since our last visit, absolutely nothing as far as the decor and style has changed. It was a very hot evening, and the lack of AC was problematic and uncomfortable. Our server brought multiple glasses of ice to keep our drinks refreshed. The door was left open, allowing a few flies to enter. One of the lighting fixtures right by the door was not working. There seems to be a lack of attention to detail. Finally, the red wines are all still sitting on the counter-top. Room temperature is one thing, but when it is 30 degrees C then a wine fridge would be appropriate.
Although food and service are very good, there are too many things wrong with the physical properties of the bistro itself that make it not a...
