I was asked twice by staff to write a google review about the restaurant (the second time the gentleman stood at the table and wanted me to do it then....I found that a tad awkward) so here is my experience. I had been looking forward to trying My Roti Place as soon as I noticed it when I drove by. Yesterday, my partner and I went there for lunch while I was on break from work. When we walked in I was pleased with the cleanliness and atmosphere of the restaurant which added to the my anticipation. I ordered the Mom's Classic Curry Chicken Roti in the medium heat. My partner ordered the Creamy Nutty Korma Lamb Roti in the serious heat. Typically, my partner and I are similar in our tolerance for spicy food.....we both enjoy it with a good kick! We had a chat with the gentleman taking our order about the heat factor and he said the serious is hot but not too hot....so I upgraded my heat factor to serious too (I didn't want to be left out :). We sat down and while we waited for our dishes that is when I noticed the volume of the music. While I enjoyed the music it was far too loud and made it difficult to have a conversation. I was pleased with the appearance of the roti and dove right in. As soon as I cut into it the sauce oozed out and made a massive puddle on the plate and the heat...oh my God. I was dying! My partner was commenting how surprised he was at my suffering because I can handle it any other time. I was sweating, my glasses fogged up and I couldn't taste anything anyway after the first couple of bites. I didn't complain because I was on break and just needed to get back to work but there was no enjoyment whatsoever in eating something that crazy spicy. It is less than 24 hours later and I am still suffering and I was only able to eat 1/3 of it. The service was good and the staff was friendly but the overall experience could have been a lot better. The unbearable heat is the reason for...
Read moreDelicious food, perfect for my tastes!
I ordered the Chana Masala dosa wrap; Chana Masala is my go-to for evaluating Indian restaurants, and at “Serious” spice level, it was perfect for the dosa wrap. The spices and flavours were well-balanced and packed the perfect “punch,” but the thing was almost as wide across as my chest! It made for two meals when paired with an order of veggie samosas. Be prepared for way more food than a single person should eat in a sitting.
The service was professional, though a little hard to hear sometimes. The server was informative and quick, but seemed to struggle a little with my pronouns and never asked (I use any pronouns, so it didn’t bug me personally, but have friends who would have been a bit hurt by that treatment). At the end of the meal, she asked me to post a review and dropped off a coupon for 10% off my next meal, though I don’t live anywhere nearby, so it won’t help me much. 😅
The restaurant itself feels like it was designed for carry-out and cafeteria-style service, but the system is more of a traditional dining experience. The decor isn’t overly impressive, a mix of steel and ivy on one wall and murals on another, giving the restaurant a slightly-disjointed vibe. It’s like eating at a bistro, but with service and portions closer to a traditional sit-down restaurant.
Overall, I did enjoy the experience and would strongly recommend this place to others looking for Indian food aimed at a...
Read moreI pass by My Roti Place/My Dosa Place on Route 10 pretty often. Their colourful sign has captivated me since day one. It also has a near perfect rating of 4.9 out of 5 on Google Maps. Today, I had lunch there.
Their menu covers a wide range of Indian food. Some examples are street chats (snacks), roti, vegan, biryani, idly and vada and uthappam, dosa, and various Indian beverages and desserts.
Paneer, an Indian cheese, is a main staple in Indian cooking. I love it so much that I almost never order a dish without it. Hence, I ordered Yummy Paneer 65. This had blocks of paneer fried in a red coating, under which sat a salad. I paired that with Rose Milk as a beverage. Rose Milk is regular milk but has rose syrup mixed in. It is the colour of bubblegum.
To fill the remaining space in my belly, I built my own roti. Roti is flatbread popular in India that doesn’t use yeast. My roti was a classic roti that wrapped around paneer and their Superior Butter Masala. Also, they got me to choose a spice level. I went with serious. Noticing they had guava juice and that I’ve never tried it, I got that, too.
As a token of appreciation, they gifted me two small desserts. Gulab jamun and light, airy rice cakes/crackers.
My total was $41.
My Roti Place is worth checking out. You will get a nice perspective on Indian food for a...
