I enjoyed coming here. I like the food and the service has been great for the most part. I do want to share an experience recently where I ordered a hot chocolate with whipped cream that the owners should be aware about. I took a sip of the hot chocolate and it was scorching hot. It really hurt my mouth and I'm still experiencing pain especially when eating or drinking anything warm. My tongue is swollen and I have a slight lisp when I talk as a result. The problem is that I couldn't tell that it was extremely hot because of the whipped cream, there was no steam coming off of the cup. I just assumed it was at a safe drinkable temperature like at every other restaurant. I've also had hot chocolate here before and it was fine. There was no reason for me to assume this time would be different. I've literally never had this type of injury happen to me anywhere. I told the waitress and that they should turn down the temperature because I didn't want anyone else to get hurt and she brought me a glass of water with a lot of ice which settled the pain a little. I couldn't finish the hot chocolate after that and left 75% of the cup full because the warmth of the drink was uncomfortable. What surprised me was that the charge for hot chocolate still remained on my bill. A service you provided hurt one of your customers and you don't have anything in place for a simple compensation. That's shameful and greedy at the least. I'm documenting my injury with pictures just in case it gets worse and because this should not have happened at a restaurant that is allowed to operate. For future customers, beware of their hot drinks,...
Read moreMado CafĂ© & Restaurant is a well-known Turkish brand with multiple locations in Canada. Having previously visited their branch in Turkey, I was excited to try their Canadian locations. However, my experience has not always been flawless. The desserts remain one of the strongest points of Mado. They maintain good quality and retain the authentic Turkish taste. However, a disappointing and rather strange observation is that each time I visit, the size of the desserts gets smaller while the prices remain the same. This has gradually reduced their value for money. As for the main dishes, they are quite average. If youâre expecting an outstanding Turkish meal, you might be a bit disappointed. The flavors are acceptable but not remarkable, especially considering the relatively high prices. On the other hand, Madoâs breakfast offerings are a better experience, with a variety of options that Turkish breakfast lovers will appreciate. Another downside is that Mado is expensive compared to the portion sizes and, at times, the quality of certain menu items. Given the pricing, one would expect both generous portions and consistently high quality, but this expectation is not always met. However, one positive aspect is that they offer student discounts, which can make the experience more affordable for students. Overall, if youâre looking for a cozy place with delicious desserts and a good Turkish breakfast, Mado can be a...
Read moreStumbled upon this new restaurant inside the mall. The seating space was pretty small, the place is designed to be more of a take out place. The seats were packed tight together but the vibes were still very lively. Regardless, our server was very sweet and made sure we were very comfortable.
We got the hummus w soju and chips to start. The meat was delicious, super flavourful and paired very nice with the hummus and chips. The hummus tasted store bought but was good nonetheless. I will say that the chip to hummus ratio was not the best.
Our mains consisted of the Ali Nazik Kebab, Iskender Kebab, and the Chicken Shish Kebab. These dishes were absolutely wonderful. The meats on all of these were tender, juicy, and plentiful. Moreover, all of the eggplant, yogurt, and tomato bases paired really well with the carb on the dish, whether that be rice, potatoes, or chips. My favourite was the Ali Nazik Kebab and I definitely recommend it.
For dessert, we got the classic pistachio baklava and it was sweet and nutty. I do wish the portion was just a tiny bit bigger. For the drink, I got the angry birds mixed berry. The presentation was wonderful and super creative. The mocktail was well balanced and tasty.
Overall, this place did not miss in terms of taste and service, but the ambience and price for the meals were subpar. Definitely worth trying this...
