I would have loved to show you photos of the food, but alas it was gone before I remembered to pull out my 📸. Let’s start with Katie, or Server. She’s an extension of the Kitchen. Highly knowledgeable about the menu, gave us amazing recommendations. Serious about service - the hero we never knew we needed. What we ate: In house sourdough bread (everything, I mean everything - Katie made no mistake - in letting us know that) with honey and this buttery something or other. We started off with wine and bread and thought this could be dinner. But no, then the Eggplant appetizer came. Their tomato sauce. That’s all I’ll say about that. If you’re a texture person, the bread and the eggplant. #chefskiss Now onto the pizza. Margherita of course. The crust. The edge is rolled with fluffy air pockets, and crispy. The base is firm and has just enough crisp to it. Baked to perfection. Basil has a light crisp to it, not dried out - I’m not sure when they put it on the pizza, because it will burn even before the cheese melts, but they have a method/timing. Aside, in house (of course) chilli oil, light! I only say that in comparison to other chili oils I’ve tried - this is light. Lovely. They also have an in-house jalapeño drizzle made with pickled jalapeños and vinegar. I swear it tastes like jalapeños and lime, they got the acidity and heat balance perfect. Ended off with Coffee Gelato. Accompanied by a bottle of red, I can’t remember, it was gone by the time I remembered to make ☝🏾Note of it.
Katie - thank you🙏. I hope you told the Chef and Kitchen crew to just “stop this nonsense.” Yall can take a bow now. Until next...
Read moreStopped by for a late dinner with my roommate as I live just around the corner and was impressed with Madre. Having just moved into the area and what I call "The Converge" where Old South meets and blends with SoHo (South of Horton) a rising and increasingly more desirable area to live in I was delighted to encounter a restaurant of Madre's pedigree in residence as it represents the best of what we can hope for as this part of town continues to rise from its old foundations.
I ordered the Roasted Mushroom pizze, and was impressed by its freshness, flavour, and authenticity. The rustic flavours and texture of the pizzeta was a pleasant contrast to the otherwise boring and unimaginative selection of offerings that pizza franchises monopolizing London have in comparison.
The ambiance of the dining space is minimalist simplistic highlighting the original bones and architecture of the building. One gets a sense of the early days in London and the style in vogue at the time in this part of the city. The colour palate, a cool and inviting white sets, extends and adds an unexpected touch of elegance. While casual and unassuming the space projects class, style and good taste. The bar is small and cozy and offers a nice selection of beers thoughtfully selected for the discerning beer lover.
I would strongly recommend a visit to all lovers of authentic cuisine, who enjoy dining at leisure in a casual but elevated and unique environment. There is nothing quite like Madre in...
Read moreQuality Pizzas in London! Tried their Margherita, Cheese Louise with salami, half loaf of focaccia with creme fraiche. The Pizzas are not too salty and most importantly flavourful. Personally really enjoyed the slight sweetness from the hot honey on Cheese Louise. It says hot honey but it's not actually hot, there's a very very mild hint of spicy, just enough to balance the sweetness from the honey. Margherita is a classic. I love their pizza dough. Sometimes you get Pizzas that lack flavour to the dough, but these were good. Thin where you have toppings with fluffy crusts - classic Italian pizza. All cooked in firestone. Focaccia bread was fluffy, chewy, had some seasonings or flavorings added to the dough. I chose to get mine with creme fraiche which also had some seasonings added. Really good.
They change their pizza menu every few months! They keep a few of their classic flavours like Margherita and Cheese Louise, and change the others. I think this is awesome because it shows that they use new ingredients and are innovative, which is what eating from local restaurants are all about! Keeps consumers intrigued and coming back to try something new! For close updates on their new menus, I suggest following them on Instagram. They also post feature menu items that are not normally shown on their standard menu. I'm going to keep an eye on their menu changes so I can try their other ones.
