Edit: Everything I said happened on October 25th, 2019. And you can see how the owner tried to insult us again by their reply!
Reply to the owner: I write the review before COVID. You guys are not open before COVID?? Really? I reviewed all of my reviews couple days before to change some spelling issues and added some details. Why don’t you reply me two years ago when I first posted this review when we got insulted by your waiter?? Everything I said in this review is true!! It’s not only us, the other table get traded like this as well! No one want to hurt your business unless they are insulted by you!!
Worst service. We ordered sukiyaki and waited for 40 mins, nothing served. We asked politely “is our food almost ready?” The waiter yelled at us, said “okay!okay! Just be patient! The sukiyaki is very large! We need to cook! You need to wait!” I am wondering in which universe the sukiyaki need to be cooked??Then when the food served, the same waiter is cooking the sukiyaki for us. We asked politely, again, about the name of the food. He yelled at us AGAIN!! “Ok! Ok! You need to be patient!! You understand???” OMG really?? After that, we received No service at all. When we finished, he came here and said “Do you want some water?” We said yes and then we waited for 30 mins, no water come at all. So we go front to pay because we have a movie to catch. The owner completely ignored us, like we are invisible, and made us wait in front of the desk for more than 20 mins. It is the worst customer service and experience in my life. Go there if you want to be yelled...
Read moreTonight, I dined at Shiki Japanese Restaurant. It is located close to London Health Sciences Centre.
As I flipped through their menu, I realized Shiki has much to choose from. They offer sushi, hot pots, noodle dishes, rice dishes, soups, and salads. Best of all, you can order Wagyu beef (in steak form or in a hot pot).
I was in the mood for sushi, so I started with that. I ordered a spider roll (4 pieces) and a California roll (6 pieces). The spider roll had fried soft-shell crab, sesame, and lettuce; but the California roll had avocado, cucumber, crab sticks, masago (eggs of capelin fish), and sesame.
I thought long and hard about the entree. But it was go big or go home! I ordered two portions of Wagyu beef hot pot. This hot pot was made in front of my eyes at my table. It came with two types of mushrooms, lettuce, green onions, regular onions, tofu, noodles— and of course the heavenly Wagyu. All the ingredients were fried in a sweet but salty sauce. To eat, you dip these ingredients into a whisked egg yolk.
Not done yet, I still had to conquer dessert. I chose two slices of traditional Japanese cheesecake for this. It was light and fluffy like a soufflé.
My bill came to $140.
I was lucky to have Opry as my server. She is such a kind soul.
Shiki Japanese Restaurant is more than impressive with its vast menu. Although pricey, their pricing is justified by their...
Read moreI highly recommend this restaurant. My friend and I tried several dishes, and all of them were super delicious. Sukiyaki soup was seasoned perfectly, and the regular beef included was impressed enough, making me wondering how good their upgraded one is. The egg used for sauce was creamy, very fresh, and was not smelly at all. Another dish I extremely liked was the Aburi set. This set had 4 sushi, and each one showed total different tastes. This set truly matched their restaurant name: Shiki (meaning 4 seasons). When chewing the salmon one with fired stuffs, it sounded like walking in the snow. We also tried Gyu-kushi, each piece was completely immersed in perfectly seasoned sauce, and the chicken meat itself was chewy. Also, the sea food for sashimi or sushi was so fresh and good that my friend and I later decided to try every sashimi in the manual. We personally recommend Hokki-gai sashimi (we had 9 or 10 pieces in total). The raw shrimp and squid sashimi were very rich (if you are not a fan of this taste, these two might be too much for you.) Btw, it took some time to serve the dishes, but definitely worthy for...
