People are raving about this place and I don't know why. We went there Saturday night. They seemed stunned to see us. No one else was there, but they seemed to have a lot of takeout business, judging by the bags they were preparing and the Uber Eats delivery people picking up food.
A surly teenager brought us menus. We sat. There was a TV playing a hallmark tv special above our heads. Loudly. The surly teenager's mom was at one of the tables and had to tell the kid to bring me a bottle opener for my non-alcoholic beer.
Did we want our food there? Yes. Was that our first mistake? I got a deep fried turkey leg. Literally. A turkey leg, dropped in a deep fryer, taken out, served to us. Next to it, flavorless cooked yam. My wife's soup, slightly better. But everything was bland or barely edible.
Our food was served to us in takeout containers with plastic forks and knives. You cannot eat a deep fried turkey leg with a plastic fork. Nor can you eat soup with a plastic fork. We asked for a spoon and got one. It was also plastic.
After a few bites, my wife and I gave up. We said we'd take the rest to go and got a plastic bag. The meal, one of the blandest I've ever had, came to 60 bucks.
We left, with our takeout meals. Walking down the street, I spotted a garbage can and threw the whole thing in the trash.
Is this a cultural thing? Are people longing for traditional Nigerian food, and this is what they expect to get? I genuinely do not know. But it was one of the weirdest and worst meals I've had in...
Read moreThis was about the 6th or 7th time I've ordered here since this restaurant opened. The first time I ordered Egusi Soup, and the food was so delicious! I thought the portion size was decent for the price and it came in a bigger container size. I have even taken a picture of the container size pictured. Well, the next time I ordered, I was surprised to get food in the smaller container which is the standard size they now package their food in. I was disappointed with the small portion, but the taste made up for my disappointment. Over the next few orders its been inconsistent, sometimes food is too salty or too oily(greasy), the meat at times can be very tough to chew through, especially the tripe and cow foot meat which I end up throwing. Today I ordered fried rice with egusi through Skip the dishes. The egusi stew tasted good although very greasy. The top layer was just oil, after I poured it out, I had little egusi stew left, and the rice was very disappointing, it was clearly not fresh at all! The taste was lacklustre and not flavorful at all. I ended up throwing out the rice because it did not smell nice. That's $7.99 plus tax of my money gone just for the rice! I definitely won't be ordering the fried rice again. At this point, I think I've given them enough tries. I give them 2 stars coz the egusi stew generally tastes good, though the portions are small, but they have missed the mark when it comes to...
Read moreplease. by all means. do not go to this restaurant. It is absolutely horrible. I ordered from ubereats and spent $97. I got the obgono, egusi, fried plantain, puff puff, and jollof rice.
The obgono soup was rancid, tasted so bitter, fishy and farmy at the same time. I don't think they clean their meats properly which is important for these kind of dishes. On top of that, all the meats were hard meaning they were undercooked. Like I couldn't even bite down on them. Literally like rubber.
I got the egusi soup and it was also so disappointing. The meats were so off, and the flavour again tasted like a farm and not fresh. This means they don't prepare their food properly and have no care if their customers get sick!
Puff Puffs were hard and dense. As if the owner literally just gave up at this point. And the jollof rice was so stale. I ended up literally puking because the food did not sit in my stomach properly. My boyfriend has been feeling...
