💥🧨I was blown away at how unsuspecting this place is. 💥🧨
How have I missed it in the last 3 years living in the area. It is a spot without a lot of street coverage, so it looks small from the street. It's actually a long cozy spot. An enormous bar runs along one wall and the other is spotted with tables.
Started with a🍻 beer🍺 on-tap. They had a good selection and a few that were quite new to me. Perfectly poured and wait for it, pristine temperature❄️. I mean the best draft-beer🍻 I have had in eons. I was akin to glacier 🏔️water temperature. I am drooling for another as I write this.
It's hard in our little corner of the world🗺️🇨🇦 of kitchissippi ward, in Ottawa west, to find places with the kitchen still open past basic dinner hour.🕤 This place was and boy oh boy was it on point.📢
I've been to many pubs and some really take pride in what their kitchen is offering. Be it becoming few and far between. This place puts their all into what is being fired♨️ out of the kitchen.
My buddy and I split the🥩 rib-steak🥩 sandwich, with fries🍟 AND a balsamic vinaigrette salad🥗. We had popped out for a smoke🚬 and upon return the food was in our spots. But, this must be two orders☝️🍽️🍽️. We were going to share..no no.
🤹The attentive and caring server knows her craft. 🫅She had the kitchen split🌗 the order. They must have put a little extra to make them into full orders because we each had full plates.🕺🕺
The sandwich was like eating something right out of a commercial.🎉 But those we know are made to look good making them virtually inedible. So not the case.🍽️
Steak 🥩 was juicy and perfect pink. The toppings were complimentary of the caramelized 🧅onions, still with a tad bit of crunch left in them. The bun🥖. Stood up from the juices of the steak, using a ciabatta that was no doubt made very recently.
Fries🍟 didn't take a starring role but certainly would win best supporting in a contest. The salad,🥗 was a nice touch. Tasty vinaigrette but not much to it other than mixed greens. Both of us were beyond satisfied.💯
But wait, ☝️we also got an order of tatter tots to share. We could easily have skipped these but we didn't know what the sandwich was going to be and we only ordered them to fill the gap we expected due to sharing🤝. Tater tots were plentiful and also cooked 🧑🍳with care. Their side of dip that accompanies it should and could be bottled👌. We ended up talking most of the tots home but there wasn't a drop of the dip to indulge later.
Now the time to waddle out. Check please. 🧾I didn't pay much attention to the prices because how bad would it be sharing. She must have left something off because it was below $50, less than $45 closer to $40.....start the car.🚗
What a value packed, tantalizing and exceptionally served surprise🎇🎆. The Wood will now be our first🥇 choice when searching 🧭for a little later night spot🌆.
I didn't ask the servers name but I certainly hope they never give her any time⌛off so that the customers get the real deal this place offers.🎯
See you soon🔜. As I am ready to go, 3️⃣ times a day.
Thanks for a once in a...
Read moreIf you are not interested in a place that caters to a sports crowd this may not be the place for you on game day, although when there is no major sports events on usually during lunchtime it's not as bad place to try for a quick bite. On the other hand if you are into the full noisy sports pub scene and want to hang out with like minded people then this is the place for you. The night we went was during NFL Wildcard weekend, and the place was pretty packed and boisterous. Despite the number of people the level of service was fairly fast and friendly. Fine dinning this is not, it's your typical pub type food, burgers, sandwiches, nachos, pizza, pasta and some good salad choices. Despite the menu saying the burgers were 100% beef our waitress said they were not to be considered gluten free so I went with the Nut Crusted Goat Cheese Salad and my wife (whose not celiac) went with one of the burgers without the bun. The quality of the food was decent and tasty, although I found the level of dressing on the salad to be a bit too much with a large swimming pool of it in the bowl, and I'd have doubts about ordering pasta and expecting anything exceptional from what I saw go by. A decent place for a bite and some drinks on game night just expect it to be loud...
Read moreIt's a well-run, clean place, almost entirely free of any half-wit element.
Good wings (ask first blue cheese/ranch, though), veteran, no-nonsense calibre staff, draft selection also solid.
Curiously, an alley way tavern look initially yet you could without a doubt have an intimate dinner at the many tables of two, and there's no shortage of vino in that joint.
Also, there's a few sports dudes on staff there who REALLY know their sports, and can not only banter quite intelligently but adjust their knowledge to your level so you can go home feeling smart instead of dumb.
Other: No absence of TVs (i.e. they'll put it on if they have it -- and probably do); don't ask for a straw for your beer (ever); be kind to the Jets & Browns fans who drink there; don't complain about the wrestling when there's nothing else to put on TV; best football pool in the city if not the area code; the regulars are friendly to a man; and, if you have a group who want to watch a sports event, I haven't a doubt a quick face-to-face w Mgr. would set up an ideal situation at back of place.
First rate pub; nothing comes close in area, in my...
