Happy Goat Coffee Co. (Hopewell) — Restaurant in Ottawa

I RARELY leave reviews because I truly can’t be bothered but after today I felt like I had to…. This place is so cute and the coffee was great, the barista on the other hand was something else lol. I consider myself to be extremely friendly and easy going. I always tip and am respectful to baristas as I used to be one and understand the stress of the job. I got lattes and asked for some sugar packets as my boyfriend forgot to order them with sugar. The response and tone of the barista was so rude and just bizarre that I genuinely couldn’t enjoy my coffee and was upset the rest of the time I spent in the cafe. The barista didn’t even acknowledge me asking for sugar and basically slammed the container Of sugar on the counter and then raised their voice at me when I took it over to my table to give some to my boyfriend saying “YOU NEED TO GIVE THAT BACK”. They didn’t even give me a spoon or stick to store with and I just resorted to using a straw. It was such a strange interaction and It’s a shame that the barista took their bad day out on me because I was just trying to have a coffee with my boyfriend. I’m not even from Ottawa yet I’m writing a review because my visit here was so unpleasant. 😭 Maybe they had a bad day but just try not to take it out on people that are supporting your business and...

I am upgrading my review. I got a very nice response from the owner of Happy Goat through email and was pleased to see that they did the right thing by going to their staff who served me that day and discussed with them all my concerns. I also gave a better review because this was the only negative incident that I encountered at Happy Goat coffee shop. Whenever I've been there in the morning the staff are welcoming and friendly and the coffee is good. In future I'll stick to coffee!!

I just had a hot ginger tea. I asked about their spring specials, which were advertised on a board outside, at first they thought they were only a cold drinks, then they changed their mind and said it could be warm as well. Those drinks had just been introduced they said, but no excuse on their part.

Both servers did not crack a smile, and both were unpleasant, absolutely not welcoming, so disappointed as I've been here in the morning, and the server at that time is always super friendly.

The ginger/honey tea was mediocre at best with the tea bag left in the cup, with no dish offered to put it on, totally not worth the $5 I paid for it. These two need some instruction in PR towards customers, and instruction on...

UPDATE: the owner replied very kindly and Happy Goat made it right. My second experience was much better and I’ll definitely be frequenting Happy Goat whenever I’m in Ottawa.

We walk in at 4:15 and the barista at the counter says he’s shutting down the coffee station in 15 minutes. That makes my husband and I feel pretty rushed, but we don’t mind as it’s good to know. Husband asks for an iced coffee, and the barista had already shut that station down even though it’s 45 minutes until the close time listed in the window.

The barista offers to make an Americano instead of an iced coffee and my husband says ok. We were given a hot Americano — we figured the barista meant iced since my husband had originally ordered an iced drink. The barista had already turned around to go back to cleaning his station after we saw our drinks on the counter, so we didn’t feel comfortable asking to have it remade.
